If anyone has access to 1860 Fairfax Census Index, will you please look for the surname Ambrose? There was only one family in Fairfax in 1850, so probably not more then that in 1860. Thank you so much, Mary A. Sutphin
Hi Folks, Where is a good place to park the car when visiting the Fairfax County Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia? About 6-7 years ago I parked in the parking spaces (metered) right in front of the courthouse. Seems like spaces opened up around 11 AM after the initial morning surge of people started to thin out. And one time I parked about two blocks down the side street which is on the right as you face the courthouse. I only want to park in an open lot or on the street; no garages. I don't mind paying to use a parking lot. Thanks for your suggestions, Valerie

Feb 15 1911 in Fairfax County, VA to Jesse L Aleshire and Blanche Stewart. Not sure at what point the spelling of the name changed from Aleshire to Ailshire, but they seem to have been used interchangably for a time. Blanche Stewart was the daughter of Ulysses S Grant Stewart and a Cherokee Indian. Any information would be appreciated!

This is in answer to those who wrote wanting to know about the possible virus or whatever I received this morning. I believe that it was an image file because of the icon. I figured it might be a pornographic photo or such. It was HampsterZIP.scr (13.3KB). I just now got the same E-mail that I got this morning on the same person's E-mail and this time the attachment was Humor.TXT pif (13.3). This is another photo file. Just looked it up on Symantec The following is from SYMANTEC AntiVirus Research Center (SARC [email protected] Discovered on: April 11, 2001 Last Updated on: May 8, 2001 at 08:39:43 AM PDT Due to an increase in the number of submissions, [email protected] has been upgraded to a Category 4 threat. It is a MAPI worm that replies to all unread mails in your email message folders, and drops a backdoor Trojan. Also Known As: W32/Badtrans-A, W32/[email protected], BadTrans, IWorm_Badtrans, I-Worm.Badtrans, TROJ_BADTRANS.A Category: Worm Infection Length: 13312 Virus Definitions: April 11, 2001 Threat Assessment: High Damage: Medium Distribution: Number of infections: 50 - 999 Number of sites: More than 10 Geographical distribution: High Threat containment: Easy Removal: Easy Damage: Payload: Large scale e-mailing: It replies to all unread messages in the message folders within the default MAPI email program. It then copies itself into the Windows folder as inetd.exe, adds a run= line to the Win.ini, and displays the following message:

Found this on another list I am on which talks about it. Hope it helps. Patricia THE VIRUS: You can do a self-test to see if you have it by using the find command on the start menu. Type in "inetd.exe"or "kern32.exe" or " hksdll.dll" Don't use the quotes and select the "find it"button. These are the files this virus puts on your computer. If it does not find those files you should not have this virus. The win32.badtrans virus functions by replying to unread emails only. It does not go out with emails you send out. It automatically sends the reply with the virus to any of your unread emails 5 minutes after you start or reboot your computer. It is written to function with MS Outlook. This particular virus shows up as an attachment that can be named as one of the following attachments. Don't open an email with these attachments. JUNE and All: The message sent was in fact a virus and the sender knew nothing about it. I have received this virus over 30 times in the past two months. If you get this virus and open the attachment then it will sent itself to all the email addresses in your unread mail. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS. The virus will simply copy the messages sent to you and tell the individual to look at this attachment. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------C728E6FC844C6A28B7DB74C1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Let me also suggest a site for topographical maps, from the US Geological Survey: <http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form>. I'ts part of the Geographic Names Information System <http://geonames.usgs.gov/>, and it helps you find maps by knowing any map feature -- streams, towns, a long list. It gives you access to an assortment of different types of maps, and I've found it useful for locating everything from a city to a particular institution (e.g., Vienna Post Office), to a mountain or marsh. I just now entered "Bull Run" and Virginia, for example, and got my choice of 23 features, from Bull Run creek for each of the counties it runs through, to Bull Run Regional Park, to Bull Run Mobile Home Park. A very valuable tool. Charles Williams Barbara Prestridge wrote: > Thank you for that link. I do have it on my web site and am using a lot of > info from it, but appreciate you passing it on. I need some help from someone who frequents the VA State Library that would be willing to look something up. One of the authors of the Ann Peake/William Jacobs portion of a book that is being readied for publishing had a question on some information I supplied that was taken from the minutes of the Occoquan Baptist Church, 1794-1843 (Library of Virginia). Entry is dated: 27 September 1794 "John Jacobs is hereby excluded from us for irregular conduct and disorderly walk." Should the word be WALK or TALK. We would be so grateful if someone please look this up and see if they could determine if the word is WALK or TALK as it will be impossible for any of us to get to Virginia to look this up ourselves. Thank you. June

Posted on: Fairfax County, Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Fairfax/10335 Surname: Kennedy ------------------------- I'm looking for any information on Alexander Kennedy of Fairfax Co. in the mid to late 1700s. He was a ship owner and was married to a woman named Ann. They owned property in Fairfax Co. I would guess there's a will around there somewhere with a listing of their children, which I do need. Any help greatly appreciated. Sally K. Emily
I don't have any information on MacDonald. But my gr-gr-grandfather John Childs Williams -- born in Fairfax Co. 1831 -- also moved to Pike Co. MO after 1850, married Nancy S. Nalley there in 1855, and appears in the 1860 and 1870 Census records there. He also died in 1927. His brother George (m. Elizabeth Strother) also moved to Pike Co. before 1860. A reference in which I found a few tidbits of information is The History of Pike County, Missouri (Mills & Co., 1883, Des Moines IA). I'd be curious if any other respondents on this BB had ancestors who migrated from Fairfax Co to Pike Co., MO. I'm curious about the circumstances that led to that choice of location? (The opening of farmland for homesteading, or sale?) Hello Cousin Allen FAIRFAX, who is blessed with the opportunity to cross the big pond and visit James and Peter Fairfax's Home Church this summer!!! ...{:) TAKE PICTURES!!!! ...{:) Excellent find ... Faircloth is a prominent NC name ... Senator Faircloth hails from Sampson County, NC and is a favorite son of Clinton, NC the county seat . ... and yes I have been referred to as Fairchild/Fairfield/Fairfox ...etc. The Ed Lovitt referred to in the listings may be the grandpappy of the Lovetts who moved to Columbus County, NC and Heck Lovett who bought Jack Fairfax's Farm and "Other Fairfax Lands" as referred to in the Columbus County Historical History....{:). If we can determine Walter Fairfax's (Northampton County, NC Constable in 1802/3& finally residing in Nashville,Tennessee in 1806) siblings and parents and the Jernigan Family connection to Whitmel Jernigan (Whitmel's Will of 1793 in Bladen County, NC) ... we may very well be heading "back to" England ...{:). Jack Fairfax is an original Charter Member of the FAIRFAX Society of England and Gerry Webb's book "FAIRFAX of YORK", January 2001, refers to him as a viable source of FAIRFAX history in England. Keep on, keeping on!!! ...{:). The referred to listing of Dobbs County Military folks also lists Jesse Jernigan, who I believe may be our JERNIGAN patriarch of North Carolina ...{:) Have a great day ... you just made mine! Best regards, Cousin Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> P.S. - HAPPY BIRTHDAY W. S. Hardee of Horry County and many more Blessed years to you COUSIN! ... your significant contribution will always be recognized as a gracious and excellent source of family research by us "newbies"!!!! I suspect this is either someone not remembering his last name correctly when they made the list (has anyone ever called you Dan Fairfield or Dan Faircloth? that has happened to me several times ... except for the "Dan" part!!) ... or, perhaps the writing is illegible ... not sure it helps much, except we may now know that Peter Fairfax was not a young man during the Revolution, which leaves open the possibility of him being the same Peter as the one that got married in London .... couldn't find any Fairfields in the other lists ...
