    1. Cora Pritchartt obit 1927 - new family names
    2. Hello, My interest in is the name PRITCHARTT Just received the obituary on Cora DeMovell Pritchartt published in Fairfax Herald August 19, 1927. Cora died in Shenandoah but born in Fairfax Virginia. I have had little success on finding further information on family, e.g., burial, deeds, war records, as most of her siblings died very young during Civil War. Hoping the following obituary will bring forth some connections to the "cousins" listed in obituary. Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Begin Obituary: HAD RELATIVES HERE - Mrs. Cora PRITCHARTT WILLIAMS , the widow of General James H. WILLIAMS, CAS, died at her residence in Woodstock, August 13, in the 88th year of her age, and was buried there August 15. She was Miss Cora Pritchartt, daughter of Lewis S PRITCHARTT and Roxanna GRIGSBY Pritchartt, formerly of this county. She was born in Fairfax county and was a first cousin to Mrs. Elmira V HOLBROOK, Mrs. Madge R PIERCE and Miss Monimia Fairfax RICHARDSON, and F W RICHARDSON of this town. I am on a new search with this information, but surely welcome any relationships here. Thanks Annabelle Rupert - researching the name Pritchartt

From research as of this writing, most of her family died during the Civil War. Her father Samule Lewis Pritchartt lived in Fairfax County, however little can found on him. It is believed he changed the spelling of the name from Pritchard or Pritchartd.

    1. Amnon Church
    2. Keith Kurtz
    3. have been interested in the Amnon Church since I first saw it mentioned on this list. records of the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1730-1767, Vol. 1, page 250, Lancaster Co, PA: a marriage of Conrad Kurtz, miller, single, from Adelmansfelden, was married to Juliana Amnon, single, on 26 Dec 1756. Conrad is the first Kurtz of my line to come to the US. I can not find anything else on Juliana and by 1762 Conrad was married to Elizabeth last name unknown. My question is does this church have any connection with the Ammons of PA and could there be a Juliana Kurtz burried there. 1. Re: Arnon Church
    2. Shirley, Thank you so much! I've been to the cemetary and seen my grandparents' (Edwin & Laura Jewell) and gr. grandparents' (Elijah and Margaret Jewell), but since you said there were many unmarked graves, I wonder if any other relatives are there. If you could check any of the following names whenever you have a chance, I would appreciate it. They are all Jewells: James G, Walter Lee, Dulaney Hunton, and John Thomas. Also, I have recently learned that Edwin & Laura had several children who died young: Laura May Jewell, b. and d. 26 April 1899 Audrey E. Jewell, b. 30 Apr. 1901, d. 29 June 1910; Cora Beatrice Jewell, b. 21 March 1903 (no death date, but know she didn't live to adulthood) Goldie Jewell, b. 14 Jan 1917, d. 30 July 1919. The family had moved to Maryland before Goldie was born, but since Edwin and Laura were buried at Arnon, they may have buried Goldie there too. One of my cousins and her family recently went to Arnon and tidied up around the marked graves. They also found another rather large marker for Jewells that I don't remember being there when I was there about 4 or 5 years ago. Thank you again. If its easier, please email me directly: [email protected] Debby

    1. Re: Arnon Church
    2. Arnon Chapel church burned many years ago. There are few records of people buried in the cemetery. I have many ancestors buried there without markers and there are not any records. I do have access to the VA Room in the Fairfax Regional Library with a list of names from the Head stones. There is one lady I contacted, she is very old, who also has the list of names from the Head stones. Let me know If I can be of help.

I don't have any infromation on A.J.Brooks that may have been a slave trader however, my family were slaves that had the surname of Brooks,in Loudoun and Fairfax and my research on how they got that names has taken me to a dead end. Now I can look at the A.J.Slave trader as a new ave. for me. If I come up with anything I get back to you.

    1. Re: Indenture, 1805, Between William Lyles and Michael Kellar, wife Katherine and son [Jos.] George
    2. Since I don't know the parents of Michael Kellar, I was hoping that there might be a family connection that someone might recognize. His wife was Catharine Monroe; no connection there that's obvious. I'm wondering if one of those names could be his mother's family...don't know. Michael did have some court dealings with Henry Gunnell Jr. in Fairfax Co...can't remember just now...maybe they sued someone together. The McIntosh name is related to the Kellers of WV, but I haven't tied into to that line yet either. So far the names in the deed are just names...no family. One of our Kellars married James H. Williams in Noble Co., OH in 1868. James was born about 1849 in MD if the info given me was correct.

    1. Re: Thomas Lyister (Lister) (Lester)
    2. Mr. Lance, Can you identify the ship passenger records you refer to. I have recently identified a whole new set of Williams cousins, and tradition in their branch of the family has it that my George Williams (?-1794) of Fairfax Co. was an original immigrant. By some wild chance, he might turn out to have been on the same boat as the Lesters. Charles Williams

    1. Re: Indenture, 1805, Between William Lyles and Michael Kellar, wife Katherine and son [Jos.] George
    2. The George Williams' lot referred to in this deed belonged to my 4gr-grandfather. His father, also George Williams, had leased it from Thomas Ludwell Lee betwen 1765 and 1770. Lyles bought all of T. L. Lee's land in the vicinity from Lee's heirs in 1785. In 1790, Lyles brought suit against George Williams, the result of which was a determination that the boundaries of the Williams lot were correct. George Williams the son inherited the lot (it was a "three- lives" lease, in the name of the father, mother and eldest son), and subsequently bought it and additional land from Lyles. He also sold land in Fauquier Co. to Henry Gunnell in 1795, bought land near his original lot from the heirs of Henry Gunnell in 1843, and his son Ira married Ann Gunnell. Ira was the brother of Augustine Bowyer Williams, my 3gr-grandfather. Are these the Williams and Gunnell lines you cite in your surname list? If so, we may be cousins, and should share information. Charles Williams
