Trying to locate an obit online in the local paper that would have carried the data for a surviving family member whose address is given as 'Alexandria, VA'. Need the web link for the local paper of that area if someone will share please. Deceased is Matthew Patrick Cooper, died 3 Jan 2002 in NC. Thanks, Belinda NC
I have a list of the British Regiments but no rosters 1775 - 1782 compliments of Jack Elfred FAIRFAX, deceased June, 2001, England, at this point ...{:(. I'm sure a whole bunch of NC researchers could use the rosters whenever somebody "across the pond" transcribes them ...{:). Maybe www.Ancestry.com folks would be interested?! Hello folks and Happy 2002 Dear listers, you will probably be seeing a lot of my posts now as I have ALAS!!! Traced my ancestors with verified records to Fairfax, VA. Working my way back, I started in St. Louis 1850, then to Fayette County Kentucky 1800, and now here I am into the 1750's. Reading over some court documents, there is reference made to "land containing 190 acres lying and being on JONEMORE RUN in the County of Fairfax. (land owned by PRITCHARTT'S). Would like to know more about this location? This was land owned by Lewis Samuel Pritchartt, passed on to his wife Francis Mason Pritchartt I think in 1805 after his death (death needs confirmed) and then to heirs later on. Land remained in the ownership of heirs for many years. Thanks, Anne

Hello Cousin Cynthia FAIRFAX Bunch! Thank you and the FAIRFAX SOCIETY of ENGLAND very much for your continuing support! We are definitely seeking any possible British Soldier Regimental Rosters during the 1775 - 1782 time period of America service!!!! ...{:). Hopefully this will be a very direct means of resolving my immediate FAIRFAX family "war story" of a British Soldier FAIRFAX marrying an American settler and settling in North Carolina during the time frame of 1775 - 1782. Our brick wall is Micajah Fairfax, 1800 Bladen County, NC Census and married to a "ukwn" JERNIGAN lady [ whom we believe is related to Whitmel Jernigan, his WILL of 1793, Bladen County, NC list's Micajah FAIRFAX's son Needham/Nedom Fairfax as a COUSIN]. Needham FAIRFAX is my ggg-grandfather, 1850 Columbus County, NC Census. I have a written letter of a relative who "paraphrased" this North Carolina FAIRFAX "War Story" from her mother who passed it on from several conversations with her grandmother, Evelyn Caroline HINSON Fairfax [ my great-grandmother in Columbus County, North Carolina ] who was married to Hugh J. FAIRFAX of Columbus County, North Carolina [Hugh J. Fairfax and Evelyn are buried in the Hammond Cemetery in Horry County, South Carolina] ... notice the "Hugh" .. another FAIRFAX Family story of requiring that the name "HUGH" be carried through the FAIRFAX Family lineage ... I have noticed that Lord Nicholas FAIRFAX's brother's name is "Hugh" Fairfax ....{:). HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you mighty fine folks and many best wishes to you! SYOTN! Help!! In early December someone sent me a file entitled Doc.Docs.pif with Patrick Fay in the subject line. It appeared to be from this address: [email protected] I cannot read the file and any attempts to e-mail the sender have failed. Am hoping it came from someone on this list as Ann and Patrick Fay are the names I am searching for thru this list. Would love a response from someone and am eager to see the file! Pat (in MN)
Dear Helen: please let us know where we could purchase the booklet by Ms. King that you cited in your Pritchart family reply. The booklet is entitled: Abstracts of wills & Inventories, Fairfax Co., Va. 1742-1777 with rent rolls for 1761 and 1774." If it is not available for purchase, would you be willing to do a lookup for me? I would like to know if George Somers is listed as a resident in the rent rolls; also a Landman family. Thanks, Grace Upshaw
Helen, I am very much interested in your posting since King and Simpson were both mentioned in that first bit about the will. My Laurence King was taxed in Fairfax in 1787 but the tax was paid by an Aaron Simpson. Laurence married a Jane, who I think may be the daughter of Simpson since he paid the tax. That doesn't necessarily follow, I know, since Laurence may have worked for AAron Simpson. J. Estelle Stewart King and witness William Simpson - Would you (or anyone!) have further information on these people? Many thanks, Pat Snyder
