Surnames: Butler, Jenkins, Alice Ema, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SBC.2ACI/378 Message Board Post: William H Butler b. about 1805 married Francis Ann Jenkins b. 1810 Fairfax , a daughter of Elisha Jenkins and Susan Pritchartt of Fairfax. William H Butler can be found on all of the Fairfax census forms and by 1840 has several male and female chilren born between 1825-1850. He is still living in Fairfax in 1863 as he had a slave that gave birth to a child named Alica Ema Dec 1, 1863. This is not a direct line, but many clues here, however, this entire family just disappeared. Anyone looking for Butler's born between 1820-1850? Also can find few Jenkins in Fairfax, yeta Frances Ann had sisters and brothers - Benjamin, Travers, Richard, Lewis, Susan Jenkins - all born about 1780-1810. Does anyone connect to this family? I believe Elisha Jenkins may be the son of Ezikah Jenkins and Sabing Lewis only by naming pattern.

He is now doing similar tests to see whether any males are descendants from the Danish Vikings. As you know it has been recorded that the Fairfaxes descended from a Danish Viking. I wrote to the professor and he is very interested and has offered to do DNA tests on any Fairfaxes willing to assist. I am presently gathering names and addresses of volunteers. Later each will receive a small pack and all that will be necessary is to take a swab from inside the mouth with a cotton bud (so it won't hurt!!!) and post it to the professor. 1. [VAFairfa] James Fairfax Maryland Virginia
    2. Fairfax, Dan
    3. Hello ALL!!! ...{:) My answer to this discussion is "YES"! ....{:). This is why we need somebody to graciously do a lookup, at their convenience, of the British Soldiers' Regimental Rosters, if they exist, during the British occupation of America during the years of 1775 - 1782 during the American Revolutionary War, AKA "The great War of Rebellion", for any FAIRFAX soldiers in the British Regiments. The Walter Fairfax of 1800 Caswell County, NC Census "IS" the Walter FAIRFAX that settled in Nashville, Tennessee [ Davidson County ] in 1806 time period. There is quite possibly, as one 1800 reference stated - "there are additional other FAIRFAX "cousins" too numerous to discuss", FAIRFAX folks who were kinfolk of both Maryland [John Fairfax] and Virginia [Lord Thomas Fairfax] FAIRFAX Families, and who migrated to NORTH CAROLINA in the 1760s -1770s during the tumultuous times leading up to 1776, with both personal "Loyalties" to the British Crown and yet personal duties to defend their new homeland, such as Sgt. Frederick FAIRFAX, Dormand FAIRFAX, and Herrenton FAIRFAX of the 1st American Continental Line of North Carolina. Any documents and/or excerpts that are copied would be greatly appreciated by myself and I would love to receive a Xerox copy in the mail so I can scan it and post it to our FAIRFAX Family Website for reference by all interested parties. ...{:). Best regards, Cousin Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 [email protected] ================================== -----Original Message----- From: Allen Fairfax [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 2:37 PM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: RE: [NCLENOIR] RE: Fairfax./ Dashiel Hello Christine Grimes Thacker and Dan Fairfax, The record I found (in a court/marriage records book for Accomack County, VA) is that Colonel George Dashiel of Somerset County, Maryland, married Elizabeth Fairfax (noted as the "widow of James Fairfax") on September 10, 1740 ... there is also printed next to the record "CT ret 1740", which I could not find exactly what that might mean ... believe that Thomas Preeson was listed as the "sec." (second? witness?) Dan, If you go to the general rootsweb page, and just do a search for James Fairfax, several references will come up ... the James Fairfax in Accomack County reference has him living in 1728, and the record (which I don't really understand exactly how to read all the references there) is about his marriage to Mary Huitt Smith. Mary Smith was born before 1676 and her marriage to James was her second. Her first marriage was to George Smith, and they had four children (Huitt Smith, George Smith, Ann Smith, John Smith) ... This makes the connection to the Fairfax Smith who willed James Fairfax's soupspoons to his daughter (a stepgrandson??)...however, if James was married to Mary, why do we have a reference to him being married to Elizabeth "the widow of James Fairfax" in 1740? A second marriage for him? or a second James Fairfax? Also, I looked through my Virginia records, about the historical reference to James Fairfax attending an impromptu dance at the home of Margaret Teackle in Accomack county ... it said he went to the house initially to retrieve a slave boy who was playing the fiddle, a slave who belonged to a Bayley ... the group there persuaded him to stay for the dance, and they apparently danced all night (as her REverend father was away!) ..I did not copy down more than the one page from this book, and therefore do not have any footnote to tell me what year this event occurred ... however, in the general records I have copied off for William Fairfax of James Citie in the early 1600s, his land was adjacent to the land of a Mary Bayley ... this is the closest link yet that this James Fairfax was connected to the earlier William Fairfax .... still, we do not know whether James Fairfax had any male children of his own .... Also, it continues to strike me as odd that in NC between 1769 and 1800, we have Peter, John and Walter Fairfax's, but they do not appear to be the right age/time frame for the Peter, John and Walter Fairfax's who were children of Jonathan Fairfax of Maryland (d.1787) ... I believe we have records indicating that the Peter who was the son of Jonathan was born in 1782 (a likely year that the other Peter Fairfax died)... John shows up in 1769 in Northampton county NC, while Walter shows up in 1800 Caswell county (I guess he could easily be a son of Jonathan? do we know that for sure somehow? is this the Tennessee branch?) ... the genealogical historical record of Jonathan Fairfax said that the only one of his sons to reach manhood was Richard Wright Fairfax, that the others died young (Peter, John, Walter) ... perhaps they were wrong, and one or more of them moved out of Maryland and to NC ?? I was considering the possibility that the Peter Fairfax in Virginia during the early 1700s was perhaps a cousin of the William Fairfax/Jonathan Fairfax/Hezekiah clan?? and that this might explain the name connections, with common names in the family lines in England (there were Peter Fairfax references in England during the 1600s) .... Spending way too much time on this!! gotta go do some work!! Let me know what you know and what you think? 1. [VAFairfa] Re: Compiling on Tunnel-Tunnell-Tunnelle was "Tonnelier" in France
    2. Hi everyone, I am compiling data on the name TUNNELL and it is written THREE ways. This will include ALL of the U.S.A.I hope to publish my book by late 2003. In @1750 "Lady"Anne(Howard)and Reverand Wm.Tunnel (b. in France in 1702 )moved to nr.Herndon,Fairfax Co.Va.from nr.Fredericksburg,Spotslvania Co.Va.They came to Va.via Yorkshire,England in @1731 or as late as 1735. They had FOUR known sons who were ministers. Wm./Stephen Sr/Robert and John.(Unm.) well known as a Circuit rider all over Va. with Francis Asbury. Robert j cannot connect him to TWO groups of Tunnell's who settled in N.C. So at this point in time I am only compiling on TWO sons Wm.and Stephen Sr. and I have "found"an Elizabeth Tunnell([email protected] 1744 to 1756)who was born in Fairfax Co.Va.and she md.George Balll Sr.(b.1752 in Fairfax Co.Va.)who was the son of Nancy(Brashears)and Moses Ball Sr. They settled nr.New Garden,Va.in 1798.It is now called Honaker,Va. Am compiling on Elizabeth and Geo.Ball Sr. The reason I am writing to Fairfax Co.Va. is that I am looking for approximately 8 more children of Anne and Wm.It is logical that they had 12 to 13 children. I feel that the majority of these 8 were females. So IF you have a TUNNEL-Tunnell-Tunnelle in your family tree from (ANYWHERE)Fairfax Co.-Stafford-Louden and NEAR counties I would love to hear from you.Wilma m.(COWSAR)[email protected] -1-817-279-8944-Mailing address is 3300 Hilltop Rd.Granbury,Tx.76048

    1. [VAFairfa] Question re: 1790 First Census Fairfax Co
    2. Greetings: I have in hand a transcribed page from the 1790 Census, State of Virginia Fairfax County. It is in typewritten form with 4 columns - each column listing (1) head of household name (2) total number of whites (3) total number of blacks. The heads of households are grouped under one particular name in general and I am wonder the significance of that name. Would this person be the original land granter? In the single page I have in hand the names are "List of Charles Little" List of Josiah Watson" Lists of John Gibson" "List of Martin Cockburn". My ancestor is listed under "John Gibson" and by coincidence this name appears on other documents for paying tax. What does this all mean, can anyone elaborate on this? Look forward to further. Thanks to all as I always get informed responses. Anne Ancestor of Lewis Samuel Pritchartt - Fairfax County VA

I'm doing my stepfather's genealogy, he turns 70 this year. He's very proud of his father, Edwin Harrison, Sr, who was a professor at Cornell for many years. Robert and Mary Ellen are Edwins parents. I know that Robert's father and mother are JS and Catherine Harrison, and Mary Ellen's are David (Daniel) and Harriet Detwiler, but I haven't been able to go further. I'm hoping the obits will open it up for me. There is still some members of the family in VA, but I'm not sure if they are still in the Herndon area or not. My stepfather says one person sends him a Xmas card, but so far he hasn't come up with the name or address. Of course, this genealogy is a surprise for him, so I can't look to eager!

Also, if possible, the obituary for Mrs Robert (Mary Ellen), who died in July of 1929. It was reported in the Fairfax Independent. Thanks.
