Hi Folks, I'm looking for information about Harrison Jenkins (b. abt 1810). I found him in the 1870 census for Loudoun Co., living near Farmwell. He and his wife, Delilah, had the following children: Nancy, Allen, Elijah, Rebecca, Harrison, William, Sampson, and Nellie. There may also have been two other daughters, Ellen and Virginia, who died before the1870 census, as they are in the 1860 census for Fairfax Co., but are not listed with the family in 1870. It is possible that the Harrison Jenkins mentioned above died near Dranesville, in Loudoun or Fairfax County, in March 1875, as there was an obituary notice in the Alexandria Gazette for a Harrison Jenkins of Dranesville who died in March 1875. I may also have found his and Delilah Jenkins (maiden name) marriage record in DC in 1844. I'd like to know when did Harrison Jenkins die and where was he buried. Also, what happened to Delilah after Harrison's death? As she was only 50 years old when he died, she may have remarried. Any info on either of them would be great. Since Harrison and Delilah had a large family, there should be many descendants living today in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Hopefully someone can help. Valerie

A note in our family records say that he had a colored man called Abraham who died at the home of Sarah Cotner in 1879 . He was about 80 years old and he is buried in the Cotner Cemetery in Dent Co., Mo. He probably came from Va with them and stayed with their daughter Sarah after the death of her parents. The Watsons that were intermarried with my Cooksey family also brought slaves to Mo. One a young girl born 1822 in MD died about 1894 or 5. Her name was Jane but she went by "Jennie". She is buried in my family cemetery, the Cooksey Cemetery. her Husband, I dont know his name, is buried in the pinto cemetery. They had a son Zarr that was taken by the same bushwhackers that killed my gggrandfather and presumabely killed also. Jenny was a tall slender woman and only had one tooth left when she died. She was willed to my great grandfatgwe George W. Cooksey and all of Leonard B Watsons land a! t his death, to care for Jennie. When she was freed she wouldnt leave the George Cooksey family. I heard about Jenny from my grandfather Christopher Cooksey who Jenny helped raise. He was about 11 ir 12 when jenny was laid to rest.. Her son would have been about the sane age as George. Hello, Reading 1820 census of Fairfax County through "Images online" at Ancestry.com. The pages do not show column headings at any place so I have printed out the 1820 form to use as a guide. My dilemma is that the columns headings do not match the original census records. The 1820 census (original) shows 23 columns across The first (6) free white males (per printed form) 1. under 10 2. under 16 3. 16-18 4. 18-28 5. 28-45 6. 45 and over Repeated (next 7-12) for white females (per printed form) This seems to agree. Next and beginning at column 13 and through to 23, it differs. Could someone offer the proper column headings in order. This is the section that lists "slave" ages and gender and also free colored, along with number engaged in agriculture or other business. Any reference will be greatly appreciated. Anne

The Walter FAIRFAX, 1806 settled in Nashville, Tennessee and married to a Cecilia NEE Fairfax, named their daughter Matilda Fairfax, who married Robert Lusk, Sr. and who are buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. There were "Hessian" German Soldiers who fought on the British side in the Revolutionary War of 1775 - 1882. Maybe the "British Soldier story" referred to a soldier who "Fought" on the British side and quit to marry a local North Carolina "Lady" was a "Hessian"??? ... the Hessians were German mercenaries and were finally defeated by George Washington via a surprise attack on Christmas Morning ....{:).????? I reckon we need to locate a source for the regimental listings of the HESSIAN German soldiers who fought in America during 1775 - 1782 as a side bar pursuit??? I will pass this on!!!!....{:). (cannot really read this) Fairfax, listed as laborer, cannot tell where he was born So, unable to tell whether or not this John and Daniel are necessarily related to the 1797 John and Daniel .... makes me wonder whether Dormand and Herrenton are German names?? and perhaps some Fairfax married a German woman at some point ....I also have a previous find of an Emma Fairfax during civil war New orleans whose father was a "baker", anf friends with a jewish family (diary of a Clara Solomon) ... it could be that these Simsons were jews from Germany, as there was a large jewish population there during the war (I met a Jewish woman from New orleans up here who told me all about the history down there, she's into genealogy and is going there next month and will do some research on this for us ... she is also aware of a Fairfax plantation down there) I'll fill in more details later .... Hello-- My gggreatgrandfather's obituary says he was born in Alexandria, VA, on Feb. 5. 1846, and that he joined the Methodist Church at an early age. My family thinks that he served for the Confederacy, but that's about the sum total of what we know about him. I wondered if anyone out there might have this family in their records somewhere. I believe he married a Margaret Keene (she said she was a member of a Harrison family). He moved to Texas shortly after the Civil War. Can anyone help me? Thank you, Molly Zeman
