Looking for surnames: BAYLISS/BAYLIS DAWSON PETTIT CAWMAN FAHNLINE STRUDER Thanks, Sandy
Hello Electra!...{:). The was a John FAIRFAX and Daniel FAIRFAX in Louisiana during 1800s. Their archival census data stated they came from GERMANY. There also was a John and Daniel FAIRFAX who filed for their fathers' Revolutionary War Pensions in 1796 in North Carolina. Their fathers' names were Dormand and Herrenton FAIRFAX. What FAIRFAX family line are you researching? Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 [email protected] =========================== Hello Dan, A quick note to tell you I stopped by the archives yesterday to look up the New Orleans Fairfax clan ... found 3 names in the 1850 census (first household) Daniel Fairfax, age 35, listed as a baker, born in "Germany" !!!!!!! Mathilda Fairfax, age 17, born in Louisiana 2 Simsons, also bakers, born in Germany (second household) John Fairfax, cotton broker, born in NY (third household) George?? (cannot really read this) Fairfax, listed as laborer, cannot tell where he was born So, unable to tell whether or not this John and Daniel are necessarily related to the 1797 John and Daniel .... makes me wonder whether Dormand and Herrenton are German names?? and perhaps some Fairfax married a German woman at some point ....I also have a previous find of an Emma Fairfax during civil war New Orleans whose father was a "baker", and friends with a Jewish family (diary of a Clara Solomon) ... it could be that these Simsons were Jews from Germany, as there was a large Jewish population there during the war (I met a Jewish woman from New Orleans up here who told me all about the history down there, she's into genealogy and is going there next month and will do some research on this for us ... she is also aware of a Fairfax plantation down there) I'll fill in more details later .... Hello all I am envious of those who know about their families from Fairfax Co. My ONLY clue is Leticia LEWIS (Leticia spelled many way...even seen Lucretia on one census) was born in 1788 in Fairfax Co. Va. I got this from her death cert. The death cert. only listed her mother "BETTY LEWIS" as the parent(s). No father's name. She married my grandpa Zacheus/Zachariah Copein/Copin/Copen in Wood Co. Va. (now W.VA) around 1814-1816 time frame. She died in Wood Co. If there are any Lewis family members I'd appreciate any help! Any clues... Amber in Georgia
My Cross family were in Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax counties. Hamilton J. Cross(b.abt 1843), son of John Cross of Pr.Wm.Co. and grandson of William Cross of Loudoun Co., enlisted in Co.A, 4th VA Cav. Sept. 20, 1862 at Stryder's Mill, Pr.Wm.Co. He was paroled April 1865 and was a member of the John Q Marr Camp. He is noted as one of the oldest surviving soldiers in Fairfax Co. in 1930s newspaper. He married Elizabeth (Betty) about 1873. I think they lived near Legate/Legato in Fairfax Co. from about 1903 until his death about 1930 when he was 87 years old. A sister of Hamilton, Adonia Fran. (Colia),b. abt. 1853-4, married Charles M. Cross of Alexandria, Feb. 21, 1876, and they lived in the Falls Church District. My grandfather, Charles Joseph Bailey, was born and lived most of his life in Wash. D.C. The SSDI listed Alexandria as his last residence when he died Oct. 1975. I would like to find an obit/death notice or any other information for him. I would love any information on any of these people and I will gladly share what I have. Thanks... Bonnie in OKC

Looking for the parents of Frances MASON born about (1755-1833) who married Lewis Samuel Pritchartt (1744-1802) Frances Mason Pritchartt and Lewis had only 4 or 5 children named Travers, William, Susan and Sarah. (births circa 1780). Frances Mason may have been married before - widow Mason? - a mystery! The name recorded as Pritchett in Parish records. The naming pattern of grandchildren suggest a MASON connection, however she does not fit in to any of the MASON genealogy as written. Stafford Co Parish records lists a Frances Mason b 1757, daughter of George Mason and possibly Elizabeth DUWEST, however DUWEST name unheard of. Thanks Anne

Hello Everyone, I am looking for the Williams family of a Rachel Williams who married Thomas STARK, I believe possibly in Fairfax County, the portion that later became Loudon Co. He was the son of James Stark, d. 1754, Stafford Co and Elizabeth THORNTON. They lived on an estate that is now pretty well submerged by the Lunga Reservoir, on the Quantico Marine base (sigh). A large tome on the family of James and Elizabeth suggests that Thomas and brothers William, Walter and possibly Jeremiah lived in Fairfax/Loudon. I have just begun researching the Williams angle, although they are the ONLY ones that are located close to me (Alexandria VA). Thomas and Rachel had their first child by 1752, supposedly in Fairfax, which is why I am looking there for the Williams connection. FYI, if it helps at all in tracking the family, Thomas and at Walter at least moved to Newberry SC ca 1768. Thomas joined other family members in Robertson Co TN in the 1790s, where he died in 1802. Any thoughts on WILLIAMS, and a Rachel born abt 1740 are welcome. I am in the early stages of looking at some of the information at the Fairfax Co library to see if I can find this Williams. I wasn't quite ready to post anything til I had more under my belt, but since there is a roll call decided to forge ahead. Best Regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter
