Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SBC.2ACI/186.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I notice that your query was posted some time ago. If you are still looking for information on this estate, I am researching my Fairfax County families and have occasion to be in the Fairfax County Court House Archives Room several times a month and would be glad to see if there is anything about it there. I have noticed several small booklets on estates and farms in the area, I have not noticed anything on that one, but I really haven't been looking. If you still need any info let me know, I probably will be going back up there either this friday or some-time next week. Please feel free to email me directly, just make sure you put a subject, I get alot of junk stuff. Mattie

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SBC.2ACI/356.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm not a big Civil War buff, but I believe that "hill" as in Munson Hill, Mason Hill, Upton Hill, etc., were just that, hills throughtout an area that were high enough to allow armies that were fighting, a view of the surrounding areas and the opposing armies movement. They named each particular hill as to whos land or property it was on. I know that Munson Hill is on Leesburg Pike about half way between the city of Falls Church and Baileys Crossroad. The Munson family was a very well known and prominate family in that area (Fairfax County) and owned and ran a large farm and nursery. My grandfathers family was from that area and were neighbors with the Munsons for quite a few years. I found the following statement in a book on Fairfax County History: "Both Munson Hill and Arlington Mill were bought by northerners in the 1840s and 1850s. The Confederate Army under J.E.B. Stuart held Munson Hill in Sept. of 1861, although it was occupied by Union and Confederate forces at different times during the war. At the time of the war, Munson Hill was high enough that one could see both the dome of the U.S. Capitol as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. An Islamic Mosque and an apartment complex reside on Munson Hill today". I live in Fairfax county and I have to say that if the families who lived and farmed that area around Munson Hill, could see it now, they would "turn over in their graves", as my grandfather used to put it. The building and population in that area is truely unbelievable today. Hope this helps. :)

    1. [VAFairfa] Life Spans
    2. Fairfax, Dan
    3. A little humor for the Holiday!!! Happy Easter! Dan =================== Subject: FW: Life Spans On the first day God created the cow. God said, "You must go to the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said, "That's a kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. Let me have twenty years and I'll give back the other forty." And God agreed. On the second day, God created the dog. God said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said, "That's too long to be barking. Give me ten years and I'll give back the other ten." So God agreed sigh. On the third day God created the monkey. God said, "Entertain people, do monkey tricks, make them laugh. I'll give you a twenty year life span." Monkey said, "How boring, monkey tricks for twenty years? I don't think so. Dog gave you back ten, so that's what I'll do too, okay?" And God agreed again. On the fourth day God created man. God said, "Eat, sleep, play, enjoy. Do nothing, just enjoy. I'll give you twenty years." Man said, "What? Only twenty years? No way man. Tell you what, I'll take my twenty, and the Forty cow gave back, and the ten dog gave back and the ten monkey gave back. That makes eighty, okay?" Okay," said God. "You've got a deal." So that's why for the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play, enjoy, and do nothing; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain our grandchildren; and for the last ten years we sit in front of the house and bark at everybody.

    2. For those of you who don't know, sharing your family trees with others online and requesting that living family members are not be posted on the Internet; does not necessarily mean that your request for privacy will be kept. This is the response that I received from a Internet website: While we understand that your preference may be to eliminate personal data for living individuals, it is not a requirement. If the submitter chooses to leave your information online, and to ignore your emails, there is nothing we can do.

Surnames: Adams, Burson, Goodwin, Hutchison, Robertson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SBC.2ACI/395 Message Board Post: Nelson S. Hutchison born in 1793 and died in 1825. He married Lydia Burson in 1817 in Fauquier County. Nelson shows up in the Census of 1820 in Loudoun County, Va. He is also mentioned as an overseer in a book "Registration of Free Negroes Commencing September Court, 1822", Book #2 in Fairfax County. He also shows up in court records of Fairfax County. Nelson and Lydia were the parents of Anne (1818); James Sewell (1819); Mary Jane (1821); Joseph A. (1823); and, (possibly) Armenia S. (1825). I have reached a brick wall in finding the parents and siblings of Nelson S. Hutchison. He may have had a brother, Henry and a sister, Athelia. Athelia was in the household of James Sewell Hutchison in 1880 as his 90 year old aunt. James Sewell Hutchison died in Pleasant Valley and is presumed buried there. If anyone has information about this family, please contact me.

Surnames: Boucher, McCarty, Green, Flowers Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SBC.2ACI/392 Message Board Post: I'm searching for any family whose history documented that Indians massacred pioneers (presumably "squatters") in a settlement site now known as Trappe (originally called Trap). The site, situated in Leeds Manor, was located midway between Ashby's Gap and Snicker's Gap on the Loudoun (Fairfax then) side of the Blue Ridge foothills where the mountain range forms a cove. Assuming the settlers were migrant squatters (from PA), for all intents and purposes, they were non-existent beings -- without official documentation in the County (Fairfax then). A Loudoun legend has circulated for 250 years that corroborates the Indian raid and that legend fits perfectly into Boucher family history that documents that Peter Boucher, an infant child, survived the raid and the orphaned child was legally bound to a millwright. The tithe records of 1767 & 1768 collected by Leven Powell (Middleburg, VA) verify Peter's existence in Loudoun. I desparately need to prove the demise of Matthew Boucher! 's family. If anyone has information about a 1743 Indian massacre of settlers at Trap (Trappe) please contact me at [email protected] Thanks, Leigh Ann

    1. [VAFairfa] John GIBSON - 1790 slave owner is who?
    2. Hello, Looking at a 1790 Fairfax Census record, I see a John GIBSON - quite a large slave holder (one of the larger). Who is this John Gibson, a wife's name? any information welcome. I believe he attaches to my family but a mystery? John Gibson paid the taxes on property belonging to Lewis Samuel Pritchartt (100 acres). Looking at a map of 1760, I see John Gibson owning land just near Loudoun County, Fairfax County Line. Checking random data, I see a John Gibson m. to Ann Eustace, also a John Gibson in Revolution, and see a Jonathan Gibson. Look forward to further information from anyone. Thanks Anne
