    3. Does anybody recognize this family in Centerville, Fairfax Co.? I would like to correspond with anyone researching this family? 1880 Census Centerville Fairfax County, Virginia Edward LADUE, Male, Widowed, White, age 67 b. NY, Farmer, Fb. NY, Mb. NY Elizabeth LADUE,Dau. Female, Single, White, age 31 b. VA, Keeps Hse, Fb. NY, Mb. NY Edwin LADUE, Son, Male, Single, White, age 34, b. VA, Fb. NY, Mb. NY Geo W. LADUE, Son, Male, Single, White, age 23, b. VA, Farmer, Fb. NY, Mb. NY Alice LADUE, Dau, Female, Single, White, age 13, b. VA, At School, Fb. NY, Mb. NY This may be Edward Ladue, son-in-law of Stephen and Elizabeth (Cooper) Ferguson, w/his children. Edward's wife Martha (Ferguson) Ladue may have died prior to this Census. It seems feasible that Edward and Martha would name a daughter after Martha's mother? Maybe Edwards Mother was Alice? It looks like maybe the farm did stay in the family after the Civil War. [See My Previous Post to the List Quoted Below w/a correction****] I have much information on the Cooper, Ferguson, and LaDue families in Dutchess County, NY. Am interested in knowing the parents of Edward in this Census, who his children married and granchildren, if any??? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ginny" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2002 10:40 PM Subject: Stephen Ferguson Family - NY>VA Abt. 1843 Searching for information on Stephen Ferguson of Dutchess County, NY who settled in Fairfax Co. abt. 1843. I imagine that if there was anything left after the Civil War of the farm for daughters Margaret and Martha to inherit that they may have sold it. Margaret (Ferguson) Cooper**** died in 1887 and is buried in Dutchess County, NY along with her husband, Cornelius and mother. However, I can find no further information on her sister Martha (Ferguson) Ladue and her husband Edward here in Dutchess so it is possible that after the war Martha reclaimed the farm in Virginia and died there????? My ancestor, Old John's son George named a child Seth Blake Somers, undoubtedly after the 2 women mentioned above.

Per his obit, he was "temporarily" intered at the "Soldier Hospital in Culpeper" and his bodied was to be later moved back to Philadelphia. However, the family had a split soon after and I doubt the body was ever moved. Anyone know how to track were he is? I'm not sure why they would have buried him "temporarily" in Culpeper if he died in Fairfax? Are there any cemeteries near where the Seminary Hospital was? Are there record somewhere that show when bodies were exhumed and sent home? I've been searching all over Philadelphia with no luck.

Since posting the article, I can now identify many folks with only initials listed, however the names you mentioned did not appear. As I have followed the life of Cora Pritchartt, age 12, in this article - the civil war destroyed this area (Centerville), and claimed all her siblings. Cora Pritchartt later wrote an article "Where the dead are buried" as she probably witnessed horrifying events first hand. I will try to repost the same article and fill in complete names where only initials were used. I know this does not bring down your brickwall, but perhaps explains more about the area. On another note, have you checked the cemetery index listings? There are quite a few Swinks buried in Fairfax County. Will check on this as I have all the volumes and post. Anne
