    1. [VACULPEP] BROWNS of Culpeper who went to Elbert Co., Ga.
    2. Karen T. Ledford
    3. I followed with great interest the latest postings on BROWNS in Culpeper Co., Va. My GGGG Grandfather was ANDREW BROWN born 1769 Culpeper Co., Va. he married MARGARETTE ADAMS in 1794. He is buried in Elbert Co., Ga. at Holly Springs Baptist Church. He has always been recognized as Revolutionary Soldier and is buried under DAR monument. Brown researchers have sought for years to prove a father for Andrew Brown. Living in Elbert/Wilkes Co. during the 1790's is also a William Brown. Andrew did name his first born child (a son), William. Also many of the pioneer families that settled Wilkes/Elbert Co., Ga. following the Rev. War, were the Maxwells (who are intermarried with the Pembertons), Higginbothams, Tyners, Thompsons, Ruckers, Teasleys, Browns, Woods, Adams. I am descended from all these with exception of the Pembertons. I have tons of information on these familes and I am also DAR under William Rucker who was Rev. Soldier from Va. and son of Peter Rucker. A large party of Virginians came to the Savannah River Valley area (then Wilkes Co., Ga) with General George Mathews to settle on land grants after the Revolution. Mathews later became Gov. of Ga. These old line Virginia families were already much intermarried, esp. the Ruckers, Teasleys. There are a good number of these families outlines in the book "Thomas Maxwell of Virginia and Georgia and his Descendants", and a number of Allie Families", by Annie Norman, Helen Maxwell Longino, and Annie Lou Maxwell. I found this book in the Archives in Atlanta, Ga. If anyone can help me with finding out who was the Father of my Andrew Brown who married Margarette Adams, please correspond. I recently acquired a book on "ABSTRACTS from the County Court Minute Book of Culpeper Co., Va. 1763--1764", aby A.M. Prichard. In this book there is mention of these BROWNS: Coleman: Daniel: Francis: Garfield: James: John: Nathaniel: Stephen and William. The Thomas Maxwell Family is also from Culpeper Co., Va. and his wife was Mary Pemberton. I note this here because of the other post about Browns and Pembertons.
