Traci - in our family history, we find in wills of HAYNES in Culpeper Co., VA -- and some later in Elbert Co., GA -- as well in Callaway & Saline Cos., MO named slaves...later in the post-Civil War Census household Negroes are found, suggesting, I would conjecture, they are former slaves having been freed. Also, our HURT family in the Fauquier-Culpeper Co. VA-area had a number of slaves in the Censuses. This information is especially of interest to us, as, I'm sure there are many cousins out there...I'm at a loss on how to proceed, since, of course, most records have the slaves as a #, or, in some cases, there are first names given (no last names, of course...and, furthermore, many slaves' names were changed for several reasons). Also, as we are a bi-racial family, this is of special interest to us. Good luck.
