Kentucky Death Records: Died July 26, 1855 of Eresipelis, Elizabeth Thompson, 66, female, married, farmer, b. Culpeper Co. Va. daughter of James Gibs. Looking for Gibbs researchers in Culpeper Co. Virginia who may know more about our Elizabeth Gibbs b. about 1789 and her father, James. Living just a few households from Elizabeth in the 1850 Census of Greenup Co. KY are two possible sisters, Mary J. (Gibbs) Truitt b. abt. 1798 and her sister, Sarah Gibbs b. abt. 1790. Mary Truitt's descendants have listed her parents as James Gibbs and Mary Oliver, but give no reference to documents. Mary J. and Sarah give birthplace as Kentucky in the 1850 census. Although Elizabeth's birthplace is given on the death record as Culpeper Co. VA. and her father as James Gibs, James is NOT listed among the taxpayers in Culpeper in 1782. Kentucky Land Grants list Gibbs, John O. - Greenup 100 acres March 7, 1826 U Big White Oak Creek. This is in the area where Elizabeth (Gibbs) Thompson, Mary J. (Gibbs) Truitt, and Sarah Gibbs were living. Elizabeth (Gibbs) Thompson was buried in the Thompson/Whitt cemetery on Big White Oak. Any leads that can be provided will be much appreciated! Thank you.
