    3. I have been at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, reading a copy of 1000 pages of diary and expense books of FAYETTE MAUZY LATHAM (b 14 Dec 1826 d 3 May 1885). The diary was started when Fayette was 18, in 1845, and ends in 1853, just months before he married ELIZABETH "BETTY" FOUSHEE. Its a fascinating report of a young man's life before the 1860s war. He thought of himself as poor but he was literate and [then] self-educated (reading law, Latin, philosophy, geography and religious books constantly). And he was very interested in young ladies <grin>. Fayette was a lifelong resident of Culpeper Co, and primarily a lawyer there. He also served as the assistant court clerk and the town clerk during the 1840s, working under his uncle (also a lawyer / clerk) FAYETTE MAUZY. I asked the Library of Virginia where they got the copy of the diaries, and they showed me their accession card that said the original was held in September 1965 by: Miss Catherine Kyle 402 Piedmont Street Culpeper, VA I believe Catherine died April 1980 in Culpeper. (SS Death Index) Does anyone know her family or heirs and who might have the old Latham diaries (and hopefully other papers)? Thanks! Jeffrey Latham Jernegan

    3. Jeff, I don't have Lathams but friend does. She has a chart that was done by a researcher for her now deceased father probably twenty years ago. All her Lathams were in VA and then came to NC. She told me she had a chart of her lines and I was thinking it was one of those you can do on Ancestry. Well, she brought it over recently and it is this scroll that rolls out about four feet horizontally and all done in ink by hand. It appears her Latham line has connections to Mayflower but I told she would have to prove every bit of what's on it. I've just emailed her suggesting she join the Culpeper email list and told her about you having Lathams. With your permission, may I give her your direct email in case she doesn't get around to this right away. Trying to get her jumpstarted! Her name is Angie Latham Crone. Thanks, Amanda E.
