Hi, Tom Your comment reminds me -- our family lived 21 miles from Harry's birthplace of Lamar, MO -- that there used to be a middle name made up for him; it sounds just like the "S" Paul in Michigan In a message dated 08/26/06 7:51:43 P.M. Once as a Captain in the Artillery in WWI and once as VP and once as Prez. He had a middle initial but no middle name. NMN would have worked for Prez George Washington and Prez Thomas Jefferson, but not everyone in the Government. Tom of 1812
Along those same lines I have found a number of families not giving their daughters middle names so that the maiden name could carry on after marriage. One of my girls just stopped using her middle name in order to use her maiden name as a middle name. It sure helps when following a female line. Dear Paul, HST was my fourth cousin, twice removed. It was on his Kentucky Shipp family side that we are related. The story goes that there were two families in his background whose surname began with S. I have both of them somewhere, but only remember the Shipps. HST's mother wanted not to slight either one of them so she gave her son the middle initial S and let each one think it stood for their surname. She sounds like a Solomonaic-type person.
