John Frederick Dorman received the Coddington Award of Merit. New England Ancestors Holiday 2006 The award is to recognize the highest standard of excellence in American genealogical scholarship and lifetime achievement in the field. At one time Mr. Dorman lived in Louisville, KY. He later sent letters to my mother (which I still have) as early as 1952 when she was searching for Gabriel Slaughter in VA. (Not the Gov. Slaughter) Mr. Dorman was in Fort Devens, MA and later in Washington DC. I heard a story on people seaching their ancestors that would go in the Filson Club here in Louisville to ask for help and this very young man would come to give advice. They never understood how a person so young was so knowledgeable. As you see I am still on "her quest".
