Of interest to the Germanna research community are the three soldiers from VA. Also the soldiers from PA may be related as at least one Huffman family of VA had a brother who settled in PA. Be aware that this info is merely a small window into the total Huffman/Hoffmans who may have served in the Continental Line and does not show those who served in the militia. Ensign Phillip HUFFMAN served in the company of Captain George SLAGHTER, 8th VA. Captain SLAUGHTER was promoted to Major and transferred to the 12th VA before the troops left VF in spring 1778. Privates Joseph and Rueben HUFMAN served in the Company of Captain John NICHOLAS, 1st VA State Regiment, which was in the service of the Continental Line at the time. The 1st VA State Regiment was a different entity than the 1st VA Regiment. There is a conflict in the VF records regarding the regiment in which these two soldiers served. The only Captain NICHOLAS shown was in the 1st VA State Regiment. For what ever use the HOFFMAN/HUFFMAN researchers can make. Best, Hugh
