    3. They were a wealthy family at one time <VBG> But I think it might be the sheer number of Strothers rather than the size of a farm that got so many Strothers of all spellings. I went to check the 1850 census and there were over 283 Strothers with a Virginia connection and then I limited by white male and got only 20. So not so many as I thought <G> and all of them in Ashbys, Fauquier, VA. I checked the oldest on the list and got for Real Estate owned $7500- and $1200- and $1200- and $6000- not big farms and there were only 169 slaves owned by any Strother in Virginia in 1850. Now I didn't check all the variants <G> to be fair. I am interested in the Strothers since my ancestor married as her second husband William Strother and between them they were grandparents of JEB Stuart and President Taylor.
