In 1760 John Wheatley and his wife Ann of Fauquier County sold to Henry Field of Culpeper County 277 acres in St. Mark's Parish in the Great Fork of Rappahannock River, in a plan of division marked "Lawney" between John and his brothers. I'm interested in knowing the origin of the name "Lawney." I'm wondering if this property could have been named for Captain Christopher Lawne, one of the first settlers of Isle of Wight County. Thanks for any help.
