Evidently when the pension request was written the writer used both sides of his paper which makes it difficult to read. Private with Virginia troops as follows: 1778, three months under Captain James Barbour 1779, two months under Captain Robert Miller Following fall 1780, three months under Captain Benjamin Johnson and Col. Thomas Barbour 1781, three months under Captain George ?, looks as if it could be Waw or Yaw. Does any person know the correct last name of George ?. John states he was in the Siege of York at the surrender of Cornwallis. John born in Culpeper c 1745, married Lucy Stapp c 1769 I have his parents as Michael Johann Willhoite(sic)b c 1713 and Mary Ballenger b c 1725. This was a late marriage and I am fairly sure Mary was at least his second wife(Hannah a third?) and I also have figures that do not match. If John b 1745 Michael and Mary couldn't be married in 1756 John signed his name Wilhite on pension and also on the marriage of his son Tobias to Nancy Margaret Ellis and his land in KY. Any help appreciated. Copying to Culpeper
