Jackson Street Martinsville, Indiana ? Dear Sir; ? Reference is made to your request for the Revolutionary War record of John Wilhoit or Wilhite. ? The data which follow were obtained from papers on file in the pension claim, S. 14833, based upon the Revolutionary War Service of John Wilhite. ? He was born in Culpeper County, Virginia. The date of his birth and the names of his parents were not given. ? While a resident of Orange County, Virginia, he enlisted and served as private with the Virginia troops as follows: in 1778, three months under Captain James Barbour; in 1779, two months under Capt. Robert Miller; in the fall of 1780, three months under Captain Benjamin Johnson and Colonel Thomas Barbour; in 1781, three months under Captain George Waw and was in the siege of Yorktown. ? He was allowed pension on his application executed September 5, 1832, which time he was eighty-seven years of age and he then stated that he lived in Owen County, Kentucky, most of the time. ? John Wilhite died January 1, 1837, and it was stated that he had lived in Owen Countyu, Kentucky for thirty years and previous to that time he lived in Franklin County, Kentucky. ? His only surviving child was Tobias Wilhite.? One Achilles Stapp of Scott County, Kentucky, stated in 1832 that he served in the Revolution with John Wilhite.?
