    3. >I am trying to find records before 1783 where Ky was formed from Va and hoping to find a record on Moses somewhere in Va or the earlier Ky records. < The earlier records for Bourbon County Ky are interred in moldy cardboard boxes in the basement of the Bourbon County CourtHouse, well yah really. There's a bundle marked Sam'l Clayton,jr. down there, too, I'll bet. Listen, I myself am buried in "Quisenberry" connections in a number of lines and 'most totally confused ~ but in the process wanted to quick mention I ran across Ken Lindsay's web site again & noticed this little tidbit jumped out: "In 1783, the Lindsay, Dowden, and Quisenberry families reached the Ohio River. They built flatboats to haul their cattle, horses, and wagons loaded with only the necessities of life. The flatboats were lashed together during the journey to withstand the spring-time dangers of the swollen Ohio River. " And which Quisenberries might those be, I thought to myself. Yours, right? 3. Hi Cynthia,   Thank you.. thank you.. for that record coming down the river, Do you rember where you found that record ?  I haven't seen that before. I have seen the Lindsay page before.   I have Mary Cushenbery (different spellings) and Nicholas Lindsay going to Dearborn Co., Indiana. They might have gone on to Edgar Co., IL after that . I never traced their lline out all the way.  I appreciate everything you have sent. This has been one hard nut to crack.   Marianne Dillow --- On Sun, 3/15/09, Cynthia Claytonroberts <CynthiaCR@sbcglobal.net> wrote: From: Cynthia Claytonroberts <CynthiaCR@sbcglobal.net> Subject: [VACULPEP] Finding Moses Cushenberry To: vaculpep@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, March 15, 2009, 8:57 PM >I am trying to find records before 1783 where Ky was formed from Va and hoping to find a record on Moses somewhere in Va or the earlier Ky records. < The earlier records for Bourbon County Ky are interred in moldy cardboard boxes in the basement of the Bourbon County CourtHouse, well yah really. 3. Cynthia,   Moses Cushenberry and his wife Ann unknown had two daughters who married Lindsay's.   (1) Mary married Nicholas Lindsay They moved to Dearborn Co., Ind. after leaving Ky. The Ken Lindsay website says they were married ca 1776 Frederick Co., MD. He was the son of Anthony Lindsay and Rachel (Nellie) Dorsey.   (2) Anna Cushenberry born ca 1772 married Vachel Lindsay 20 March 1792 in Bourbon  Co., Ky.   These two marriages sure are different in dates and locations.   Also, on Ken Lindsay's website it states the following  besides what you previously sent :   " Anthony and Rachel (Dorsey) Lindsay were still living in Frederick Co., MD in 1778 when Anthony took the Oath & Fidelity (Rev War). Lindsay, Dowden and Quisenberry family made preparations to move to the Forks of Elkhorn region (Ky) . They heard of George Rogers Clark's capture on the foots of Kaskakia & Vincennes. It would be safe to travel."   Also... " Anthony Lindsay, Jr. .. "Fort Pitt, Pa they built canoes, a fatboat for their horses, gathered supplies of food and gun powder. They wound down the Ohio River camping on the south bank each night. They were all cautious and well aware yhe Shawnees watched their progress."   On the previous report you made coming down the Ohio in your other posting this adds to it " (Lindsay, Dowden and Quisenbery) ... Apparently their trip down the Ohio was uneventful. They reached the forks of the Elkhorn about the spring of ... **1783**.... All that summer they spent farming and building cabins on land expected to claim."   What is important with .. 1783.. is that in my notes on Moses Cushenberry ... he signed in 1783 the petition entitled " West Side of Laurel  Mountains Inhabitants to the President of the Continental Congress, which was a plea for the formation of a new state which was Ky.  His name was spelled Moses Cussinberry.   Another record I have is:   Miltary Experience: "iIdex to Military Certificates 1787, Etc., Register of the Kentucky Historivcal Society" .. listed Cruzenberry, E. p. 51 and Cruzenberry, M. p. 52. The preface read: The names herwith recorded are found in an old leather-bound manuscript which was in the War Records room in the office of the Adjutant General of Ky. and which has been placed in the care of the Historical Society. The Vol is marked on the back "Military Certificates No. 1" and on the fly-leaf in this inscription "Certificates of Military Service performed in 1787 & c, under the LAWS OF VIRGINIA., therefore, while no doubt a majority of these Certificates were issued for services performed during Clarke's and Logan's expeditions of 1786 and 1787, it is evident that a few at least were for previous service."   Any comments on this Cynthia since ywe both are researching Quiseberry's ?? LOL !   Best Regards, Marianne Dillow     --- On Sun, 3/15/09, Cynthia Claytonroberts <CynthiaCR@sbcglobal.net> wrote: From: Cynthia Claytonroberts <CynthiaCR@sbcglobal.net> Subject: [VACULPEP] Finding Moses Cushenberry To: vaculpep@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, March 15, 2009, 8:57 PM >I am trying to find records before 1783 where Ky was formed from Va and hoping to find a record on Moses somewhere in Va or the earlier Ky records. < The earlier records for Bourbon County Ky are interred in moldy cardboard boxes in the basement of the Bourbon County CourtHouse, well yah really.
