Another interesting nickname is PATSY for Martha. I have an ancestor named "Patsy" Gay in Pocahontas County, WV who married Jesse Smith. Then I kept finding a Martha Smith and finally found out that Patsy was the usual nickname for Martha in the mid 19th century. Of course most of you realize, too, that POLLY is the nickname for Mary, as well. It seems funny to us now as we never hear this nicknames used today. Probably others of you have more to contribute. It isn't. Nancy is a nickname for Ann, and vice versa. Betsy is simply and only a nickanme for Elizabeth. On Mar 2, 2009, at 8:55 AM, marsha moses wrote: > That is interesting.
