Surnames: EDMONDSON/EVANS/BLAND/STEVENS/MILLER Brickwalls: 1.) Proof of which Edmondson was the husband of Patty Stevens d/o Edward Stevens and Elizabeth Burt (sister of Gen. Edward Stevens). When and were did this gentleman die? Patty was listed on the 1782 tax list of Orange Co., VA. Patty's brother, Brigadier General Edward Stevens, served in a leadership role with the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. The General received 10,000 acres of land in Kentucky for his war service and gave 2000 acres to his widowed sister, Patty. In 1788, Patty Edmondson and her nine children and their families migrated to Nelson/Washington County, Kentucky. They settled around Cartright's Creek, near Lebanon. Patty died in 1803 (will made in Washington Co., KY). The General died in 1820 in Culpeper County, Virginia . Sadly, his children proceeded him in death. Thus, he willed his estate in Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky to his nine nieces and nephews and their children. The Edmondsons are buried in the Masonic Cemetery, .5 mile north of Culpeper, Virginia (east side of road.) 2.) Sarah "Sally" Edmondson ( d/o Patty Stevens above) m. Edward Evans 15 March 1795 in Washington Co., KY. (Edward Evans - Sally Edmondson; March 15, 1796; married by Terah Templin; Bk. 1-12. Washington County, Ky. Marriage Records 1792-1878 book; transcribed and compiled by Margaret Clark Kington; page 55. Photo copies of orginal bond, letter of permission from Patty Edmondson. This may have been a double ceremony as Sarah's Sister Nancy Edmondson married John Bland on the same date. The minister was known as a "curciut rider" and they may have waited until he was in the area.). Who were the parents of Edward Evans? Virginia Circuit Court Records Preservation Program, Record 92-1, " Edmondson vs. McNeale" supports the fact that Edward Evans was married to Sarah Sally Edmondson daughter of Patty Stevens Edmondson and niece of Gen. Edward Stevens. Edward Evans is listed as a Plantiff in this suit reagrding the distrubution of the slaves of Edward Stevens. Virginia Circuit Court Records Preservation Program, Record 39-10, "Bankhead vs. Miller" in 1823 shows that the tract called "Wimpekin" was purchased by James Miller of Caroline Co., Va from Edward Evans prior the making of James Miller's will in 1808. Is there any proof that the two Edward Evans are or are not the same individual? 3.) The above case,"Bankhead vs. Miller," mentions the will of James Miller. In a book of abstracts from "District Court Order Book, 1791-1793". 11-9-1791, page 20, Ebenezer Miller is exempted from further payment for one levy for Edward Evans, for which he is charged for the year 1789. From the will of Ebenezer Miller, it appears he settled in Nelson County, KY near the junction of Fox Creek and Licking Creek. He also owned land on Harrod's Creek in Jefferson Co., KY. What, if any, relationship did James Miller have to Ebenezer Miller? Why did Ebenezer Miller pay the tax/levy for Edward Evans? Was this payment for a debt inccured?
