Hi Jean, I am constantly reading old wills - surety bonds - etc. and having a list like that would definitely come in handy. I used to have this list but as my "filing" skills leave a lot to be desired I can't find it any more. It seems to me that our ancestors used a LOT of nicknames that we, today, do not use too much any more. Is this my imagination or do you all on the list find this to be true too??? Thanks, fern www.bufordfamilies.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean Suddarth To: vaculpep@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, March 02, 2009 10:52 AM Subject: Re: [VACULPEP] Nicknames I have a huge list of nicknames that was given to me years ago: Abigail-Abby, Gail, Nabby Addy-Adelaide, Adeline or any name starting with AD Adelaide-Addy, Adele, Dell, Della, Heidi Adeline-Addy Agatha-Aggy Agnes-Aggy, Inez, Nessa Aileen-Allie, Lena Alberta-Allie, Bert, Bertie Alexandra-Alex, Alla, Sandy Alfreda-Alfy, Fredda, Frieda Alice-Allie, Elsie, Lisa Alla-See Alexandra Allie-See Aileen, or any name starting with AL Almena-Allie, Mena Amanda-Manda, mandy Amelia-Emily, Mel, Millie Ann/Anna-Annie, Nan, Nanny, Nana, Nancy Antonia/Antoniette-Nette, Tony Arabella-Ara, Bella Arlene-Lena Armilda-Milly Asenath-Assene, Sene Augusta/Augusinta-Aggy, Gussie, Tina Barbara-Babs, Barby, Robbie Beatrice-Bea, Trisha, Trix,Trixie Becky-See Rebecca Belinda-Belle, Linda Belle/Bella-See Arabella, Belinda, Isabella,or any name starting with BEL or ending with BELLE or BELLA Bert/Bertie-/See Alberta and Bertha Bertha-Birdie, Bert, Bertie Bess/Bessie-See Elizabeth Beth-See Elizabeth Biddie-See Bridget, Obedience Birdie-See Bertha Bobbie-See Barbara, Roberta Bridget-Biddy, Bridle Camille-Cammy, Millie Caroline/Carolyn-Carol, Carrie, Cassie, Lynn Cassandra-Cassie Catherine-Cathy, Katie, Kay, Kit, Kittie, Trina Cathleen-Same as Catherine Cecilia-Celia, Cissy Charlote-Char, Lotta, Lotty Chloe-Clo Christine/Christiana/Christina-Chris, Crissy, Christy, Tina Cilla-See Priscilla, or any name ending with CILLA or CELLA Cindy-See Cinderella, Cynthia and Lucinda Cissy-Cecilia, or any name with a "sis" sound such as Clarissa, Priscilla, Frances, etc. Clara-See Clarinda,Clarissa Clarinda-Clara Clarissa-Clara, Cissy Clo-See Chloe Constance-Connie Cordelia-Cordy, Delia Cornelia-Corny, Nelle, Nelly Cynthia-Cindy Daisy-See Margaret Deborah-Deb, Debby Delia-See Cordelia, Fidelia or any name ending with DELIA These are just a few-I have about six pages, both male and female--if you are all interested I will send as time permits.
