Concerning my previus posting on Moses Cushenberry , my 5th great grandfather, who was from VA and died 1791 in Bourjon Co., Ky.... I have a copy of Anderson Chenault Quisenberry's two books. The one entitled "Genealogical Memoranda of the Quisenberry Family" on p. 199 in the Appendix states: " From the Burnt Records of Fayette County, Ky." " The "burnt records" , so called, of Fayette County, Ky. are copies of mutilated papers partially saved from the flames when the Fayette County Clerk's Office was destoyed by fire prior to the year of 1800. In April , 1888, I Rev. James Quisenberry (he is the son of Aaron Quisenberry and Jouyce Dudley and a Baptist minister)... bought 200 acres of land in 1788, in (now) Clark County, from his brother-in-law Rev Andrew Tribble. And in the same book (Vol 1, p. 213) it is recorded that in 1795 Elijah Cushenberry (my Moses son)... bought on David's Fork, Fayette County, from Elijah Craig. .. I believe Elijah is from the Travelin' Church. "Also, the following entries from the records succeeeding the "burnt records". for the period between 1795 and 1800, viz: " District Book D, Elijah Cosenberry, deed to Elijah Craig, p 133. Circuit Court, Book B, Lewis Craig to Elijah Crousenberry, p 688. County Clerk, Book C, Elijah Custenberry to R.H. Hunt, p 398 County Court Book e, Wm. Cusenberry (son on Moses) to Charles Robinson, p 381 Marriage Register, Book 1, p. 4, John Pullen to Rachel Cushenberry..... I descend from Thomas Pulliam and Winnifed Holloday dau of John Marshall Holloday who died in Spotsylvania Co., Va.... 6 Nov 1804, by Rev. Ambrise Dudley, Elijah Cushenberry certifies that his sister Rachel is of lawful age. Book 1, p. 10, Obedience Custenberry to Jonathan Ellis, 20 Nov 1807 by Rev, R.R. Hunt.' "Who these people were , and where they were to when they left Fayette County in 1810, I do not know. . (They went to Waren and Allen Co., Ky formed from it).... The variations in spelling of the name is due to the lawyer who drew up the papers of the clerks who recorded them, for none of the parties themselves could write at first, though Elijah subsequently to have learned to do so, and then , instead of "making his mark", he signed Cusenberry." By Anderson Chenault Quisenberry. When Mose Cushenberry (my spelling among the many)... died in 1791 in Bourbon Co., Ky. the Inventory of his estate was ordered to be recorded June 1792, Bourbon Co., Ky Book a, p 544: His Admin was his wife "Anne Quesenberry" who came to court with her son-in-law, Nicholas Lindsay and William Quisenberry (her son) who were her securities. So, the spelling of the name was done by people who couldn't write and by their representatives who spelled it the way they thought it sounded. I am posting this here as my responses have mainly come from here trying to help me. Thank you very much for your responses. :) In previous postings I have already mentioned the others from this area of Va that was in Ky with Moses Cushenberry and wife Ann with the dates and locations so no need to repeat it here. :) Marianne Dillow
