    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.culpeper/303.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Francis Brown "I" died in Essex Co., VA in 1691/1692, and one of his sons was Daniel Brown "I" (who married Jane Copeland). Daniel Brown "I" fathered a son named Abraham Brown, and Abraham (died about 1735) moved to Caroline Co., VA at some point (he married Mary Tribble). It appears that Abraham Brown fathered two (at least) sons, and they were named Daniel Brown and John Brown. We believe that John married his cousin Elizabeth Brown of Culpeper Co., VA (this Elizabeth Brown was a daughter of Daniel Brown "II" and Elizbeth Coleman, a granddaughter of Francis Brown "II" and Elizabeth Allen and a great-granddaughter of Francis Brown "I" (who MAY have married Elizabeth Cole). There was a later/second John Brown in Caroline Co., VA, and I would not be too surprised if he was a son of the above Daniel Brown in Caroline Co., VA (and Daniel's unknown wife), and hence, a grandson of Abraham Brown and Mary Tribble. The John Brown and William Brown who each married a Doggett woman certainly COULD have been sons of this later/second John Brown (who married a Mary Napier in Caroline Co., VA, as I recall). If you know of any living male Browns out of John Brown and his Doggett wife, at least one of them should join the Brown Society DNA testing project. We SUSPECT that the existing DNA donors in "Group 10" on the Brown Society DNA website "represent" the family of Francis Brown "I"....but none of the existing donors can prove their "connection" back to that family with 100% confidence. Note: A "mystery" William Brown was selected to be one of the men to appraise Abraham Brown's estate in 1735. We do not know who this William Brown was or if he was even a "blood relative" of Abraham Brown. If this "mystery" William Brown was only a son-in-law, or perhaps just a friend and neighbor, then that would mean that there was more than just one Brown family in Caroline Co., VA in the 1700s.....but I would still SUSPECT that the John and William Brown who married into the Doggett family were out of Abraham Brown versus out of this "mystery" William Brown....but certainly no proof. By the way, I understand that the William Brown who married a Miss Doggett left VA and moved to either TN or KY (I can't remember which).....unlike his brother John Brown, who apparently was in Culpeper Co., VA.
