It is noted on Civil War and earlier maps. Although the mill no longer stands, the foundation stones and a massive White Oak are located just above Muddy Run where the mill and miller's house once were. We invited the local forestry management guy out and he told us the oak was at least 250 years old. We believe the property has been subdivided many times, but once was part of a larger tract owned by Lt. Col. John Jameson of Culpeper County, although we are doing research now to try to determine if we are right. Jameson played a role in the capture of Benedict Arnold and the spy John Andre. Our barn is only about 100 years old, but there are massive timbers with mortise and tenon construction that appear to have been reused from an earlier structure - most likely the mill - and form the sill of the barn. You are welcome to come out to the farm in Culpeper and see everything. Just call us at 540-825-5105 and ! we'd be happy to show you the area.
