    3. Speaking of Smith in Culpeper Co, I have 3 Smith families there but A remarkable document appears in the Culpeper Co, Virginia Deed Book "Q", Pg. 448, dated 13 Jan 1792. Know all men by these presents that I, Mary Smith of the County of Culpeper for and in consideration of the natural love, good will and affection which I have and do bear towards my loving children Clary Smith, Caleb Smith, Daniel Smith, Joel Smith, Gabriel Smith, Polly Smith, Augustine Smith, John Smith and Hedgemond Smith, and for the further consideration of Ten Pounds Current Money to me in hand paid The receipt whereof I do hearby acknowledge hath given, granted, bargained and sell unto the said Clary Smith, Caleb Smith, Daniel Smith, Joel Smith Gabriel Smith, Polly Smith, Augustine Smith, John Smith and Hedgmond Smith, their heirs and assigns forever in the manner hearafter mentioned all the Estate of what kind soever which I Claim under my late husband Joel Smith deceased and, all and every species of property that I claim under my deceased father Benjamin Taylor and also every kind of property which I have accumulated since the death of my said Husband and father in the following manner Vizt. <snip> Now descendents have been documented including 3 who married into the Casper Family and mine who was Gabriel Smith married a Yates. My interest is in the parents of Joel Smith and Mary Taylor. This is complicated by the fact that Benjamin Taylor's will is missing (abt 1768) and there was another Benjamin Taylor who died there in the mid 1770's. I would guess from census etc that Joel Smith and Mary Taylor were born before 1750 and married before 1770. Anyone researching this family? John www.johnhogg.us
