Apparently no one knows. I thought I would post some extra info to see if it means anything to anyone on the list. John Marshall Holladay was born 1676 in England and died and left his will in Spotsylvania dated 4 Nov 1742. His will was proved on 7 Dec 1742. The will names his son ... William 200 acres of land where Thomas Certain lived; ....son John Holladay 250 acres of land where James Perry, Jr lived; ....son Daniell Holladay 200 acres of land; ...son Joseph Holladay 300 acres of land; ...son Benjamin Holladay 300 acres of land;... daughter Elizabeth wife of Patterson Pulliam ;..... daughter Winnifred wife of Thomas Pulliam (my grandparents); .... daughter Sarah wife of James Rollings (Rawlings); 300 acres of land lying in Caroline County,.... and daughter Susannah Holladay 200 acres of land adjoining Mr. Wyatt's land. Wit : John Waller, Jr.; John Waller, Thomas Cartwright Ex: Sons Joseph and Benjamin Holladay and son -in-law Thomas Pulliam. At the time of his death it has been said he owned 4,000 acres of land. John .Marshall Holladay was Captain of the Virginia Rangers of Spotsylvania County, Va. where he was located in 1702.He lived on East creek in the southwest part of the county where he is buried. His home is referred to Bellefonte. This land is close to the land of Lewis H. Holladay and his great grandson Dr. L. H. Holladay. John Marshall Holladay's son Joseph married Betty Lewis. One of his descendants is Waller Holladay. His son Josepjh married Betty Lewis and records indicate he was close to Zachary Lewis, Waller line. In fact one of his descendants is Waller Holladay. In 1705 John Marshall Holladay owned 200 acres in King William County, Va. Here are some records: (1) Date: 22 Feb 1729: Anthony Glostone of Spotsylvania Co., Va and Jane his wife, to Zachary Lewis of same county, 200 acres on S. side Holladay's Swamp-part of pat. granted James Gholstone as by Deeds 6 Jul 1725.. 1 April 1740, Book C. (2) John Holladay received 400 acres of land. Moved from lower Virginia on Pamusky R. to Spts. Co., Va. ten miles above N. wales in 1711.. very important... His wife Elizabeth received 400 acres in 1724 in St. George Parish. I have tryed to find this record without any sucess. (3) Spotsylvania Co., Va Records Will Book B 1749-1759: James Rawlings died 9 Apr 1757; proven 7 June 1757: St. George's Parish Wit: John, James and Sarah Pulliam Ex: James Rawlings, land in Spts. Co., adjoining Zachary Lewis, Thomas Pulliam, and Colo. Thomas Moor, daughter Hannah Gimber. land in Spts. Co. adjoining that of her brother James. It being land of Henry Chiles, daughter Martha Gains, land in Spts. Co.; daughter Elizabrth Holladay. I am hoping this means something to someone and hopefully they can add to it. I guess one thing that stands out who were the Lewis' family in King William County, Va in the early 1700's where John and Elizabeth held land before they moved to Spotsylvania Co., Va. and the family of Zachary Lewis.
