    2. I agree with the main line of this discussion. Good research means trying to prove all the assumptions about your family line or lines. But, in the end, it is difficult to prove (beyond doubt) family connections when you get back, let's say, past your great great grandparents. There are so many people with the same last names and so many wives with the same first names. Case in point: Several of us have been researching our common male line for decades. We all know each other and have shared documents for years. It would be fair to say that six of us have proven our lines back eight generations and know how we connect with each other. Along comes DNA testing and we find that five of us have been right on the money with our families. The six person, who can prove his line with documentation, has no connection to us through our common male ancestor. Family research is great fun and quite a challenge. Sometimes there is simply not enough information available to prove relationships beyond doubt. I often wonder how many researchers have an Uncle listed as a grandparent in their family tree?
