    3. Bob, We're all high and dry here -- thanks for asking! :-) The tornado that did such damage in MD did pass between Culpeper and Warrenton on its way toward the Eastern Shore and actually did touch down in Shenandoah before crossing the mountains. The sky from my home office window certainly looked ominous. The clouds had that yellow tinge to them that bodes no good for anyone, and we could see the little gray "tails" drift down from them. Very scary. Donna in Culpeper (Catalpa, actually)

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ADAMS, TAYLOR, MCLAREN & TELL HECTOR PEARCE TO CALL HOME Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/2190.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I have MASON's in the Culpeper/Rappahannock/Fauquier region at about the same time. Two of my ADAMS ancestral aunts, sisters Louisa and Lucinda, married MASON men. Louisa married a Peter MASON, 1837, in Fauquier County. Lucinda married a William MASON, 1831, in Fauquier. I have no info on the Mason men's parents or if they were related. This particular ADAMS family was in Fauquier during the 1810 census but then moved through Rappahannock and finally into Warren Co. They had ADAMS family connections in Culpeper. Do these Mason's connect into your line? Any info you can shed on the two MASON's would be most appreciated. My line can be found at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=blueridge Best Regards; Sandy

    1. [VACulpeper] William W. Holmes
    2. I recently found a William W. Holmes who died in Nov. 1896 of Pneumonia in Culpeper Co. Virginia deaths, 1880-96. I have been looking for my William W. Holmes from Shenahdoah Co. for some time but could never find where or when he died. I knew he was alive in 1880 but no nothing after that. It is possible he went to live with one of his children as his wife had died in 1854. Is it possible to find a death certificate or burial record? I would appreciate any help you can offer. 1. [VACulpeper] Gray, Wharton and Slaughter
    2. B.H. and Marjorie Rainwater
    3. In an old book on Culpeper County, I found the following information on Stevensburg Academy: "-----The first trustees were Robert Slaughter, Charles Carter, David Jameson, Reuben Zimmerman, William Gray, Gabriel Gray, Philip Latham, William C. Williams, John Strode, French Strother and Mordecai Barbour." The article goes on to say Dr. John Wharton was a professor. In 1812, he announced the opening of a Medical School, limiting students to 10. My ancestor, Benjamin Wharton , was a brother of Dr. John Wharton. Benjamin married Elizabeth Finney Gray, who was the elder daughter of William Gray. I am trying to ascertain whether this William Gray who was a trustee of the academy is the same one who was her father. Also, Benjamin had a grandson named Robert Slaughter Wharton and Benjamin's daughter, Harriet married a Mr. Slaughter. I would like to know the connection of all of these families. Dr. Wharton's father was also named John and I would like any information on that John's father. I would appreciate any help. Thank you, Marjorie Gamma@bayou.com

    3. My GGG-Grandfather George Waggoner was born in 1783 we think in Culpeper County, Virginia. We think his father may have been John because he named his first son John and it seemed to be a family trait. He had a brother David. George moved to Muhlenberg County KY with his father at about 5 years old and married Elizabeth Phillips there about 1812 and moved to Jackson County, Indiana. Does anyone know anything about this family?
