I have the info on James Doak land transfer info. However all I have is written info on James and Elizabeth Hopkins and John and Elizabeth Doak Dunn. This apparently is my downline and everything I find says nothing known about this son. I know James died in 1818 (?) around. He was apparently in KY at the time. Some how this family wound up in Arkansas in the 1840 census. From there I have them. On the census is says David (or father) came fromm Tennessee. I find no record of that. I will be happy to share what I have about this family but can we go on email direct. I seem to have trouble getting logged into your messages of the message boards. Feel free to contact me direct at PPJent@aol.com. I can make copies of things I have if you are interested. I am fairly new to computers and do not always know how to down load and send things. Hope we are related somewhere down the road. Which line is yours. ! Peggy

Also copy of the Indenture by the Heirs of James Dunn Sr. stating that James Doak had clear title to the 100 acres her bought from James Dunn. Apparently doak never registered his deed so when he went to sell in 1821 he needed the heirs of James Dunn to legally state he had clear title to the land. Love to see what you have on the Dunns. Based on your information it looks like William Richards (1765-after 1803) of Falmouth is a cousin of William Richards (1755-1817) of Culpeper. William of Falmouth was the son of John Richards (1734-1785). I am a historian and don't pretend to be a genealogist. Does this seem accurate to you? Jerrilynn Eby

Joseph and William Murphy were Baptist ministers born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, however. I show that their parents were William Murphy and Eleanor Echols. The various homes of the family are uncertain. The Murphys might have moved to Halifax County, VA, about 1735, but there seems to be little documentation on the subject. Sincerely, Bill

Is there a website, or other reference where we could convert the value of currency in the 1700s to todays value? Specicically we would like to know todays value for "five shillings sterling" in 1725. John and Barbara Seese - Twinsburg, Ohio

VA, so I can get a lot of film ordered from State of VA library here to the public library in Fairfax, VA. I have some Fredericksburg, VA wills etc......already on order. I have a double line of Richards from the same John D. Richards. 1. John D. Richards born c1760 died in 1847 in Tuscaloosa, AL. I do not know the name of his wife. I descend from his son and daughter. 2. Thompson H. Richard b. c1795 VA died c1849 in Fauquier Co. VA married in Frederick Co. VA to Jane Fleming. I have a copy of their marriage record. Their daughter married her first cousin. 3. Sophia Ann Richards b. 1827 VA died c1866 Jeffersonton, Culpeper Co. VA. married her first cousin Bushrod P. Edwards. He was the son of Wm. & Maria (Richards) Edwards. Said Maria was the daughter of John D. Richards. 4. Mary Ella Edwards b. 1851 Fauquier Co. VA, d. 1934 DC married John Washington Ball. .................................................................................... Humphrey Richards born c1730 in King & Queen Co. VA, married Frances Baylor. Not sure the year that he died. According to the index of land deeds for Fauquier Co. VA he was doing business in that county in 1810. A note from the book "Fauquier Families 1759-1799" by Alcock, he was the surving partner of John & Henry Richards. Record show he was the son of Wm. Byrd Richards & first wife name unknown. Humphrey's siblings: Mildred, Elizabeth, Frances, Sarah, Philip, Capt. Wm. & John Richards, his half brothers: Richard (no issue) and Gabriel Richards (removed to TN). ............................................................................ I know I will have to be patience and wait to see what more I can find in the earlier Fauquier Co. VA land deeds. It is through this source material I was able to prove a double line back to said John D. Richards. Thank you for any help you can give.

I don't know if there is much that I can do to help you, but I will do my best. My interest in William Richards is strictly as he relates to John and Thomas Strode. I have abstracted the Culpeper and Fauquier County deeds that involve the Strodes, some of which also include William Richards. To complicate matters, there were two William Richards living in the area simultaneously. Both were doing business in the Stafford/Fredericksburg area and, in the Stafford records, were designated as "William Richards of Culpeper" and "William Richards." The latter William lived on the hill above the town of Falmouth in Stafford. From the deeds I've read, I believe that William of Culpeper lived in the fork of the Rappahannock River. A copy of his will is on file in Fredericksburg. I do not know if or how the two Williams were related. William of Culpeper was born in 1755 and died in 1817. William of Falmouth was born in 1765 and died after 1803. Is any of this of use to you? Sincerely, Jerrilynn Eby
