Benjamin HUFFMAN, b. c1763, s/o Tilmann HUFFMAN and grandson of Hans Henrich HOFMANN (Henry HUFFMAN in VA) of the Little Fork Group, Culpeper Co., VA. Benjamin was born in Culpeper Co., VA. He married (Peggy?) and had five children before he and family departed after 1804 for KY. He settled in Fayette Co., KY (census 1810) and was in Hardin Co., KY (census 1820). By 1828 he was in Greene Co., IL (tax list) and was last recorded in census of 1830. The final disposition of Benjamin is unresolved. In 1826 Benjamin HUFFMAN while in KY was advised of his father's death in Culpeper Co., VA. The disposition of the father's (Tilmann's) estate is not clear. Of particular interest would be Benjamin's legacy, if any. In a search for Benjamin after 1830 a study of the Benjamins of the Culpeper region was under taken on the possibility that he may have returned to Culpeper from IL to settle his interest in his father's estate. According the Dr. Holtzclaw (Germanna Record #5) a Mr. Settle stated that four sons of Tilmann HUFFMAN had RW service. Among these sons was Benjamin. A search for a Benjamin with a RW record was undertaken. Four Benjamins were found with connection to RW in Culpeper Co., VA HUFFMAN BORN DIED Benjamin1, Son of Henry 1812 VA Benjamin2, Son of Jacob 1760 c1826 VA Benjamin3, Son of Tillman c1763 living1830 IL(Census) Benjamin4, unidentified c1757 living 1846 VA >From the above death dates it is obvious that the Benjamins 3 and 4 are not either Benjamin1 or 2. It is possible the Benjamin 3 and 4 are the same person. In 1832 William TAYLOR and William TANNER made applications for RW pensions. In each of their applications Benjamin HUFFMAN made an affidavit stating that he, Benjamin, was aware of the RW service of each of the applicants The Benjamin, b. c1757 VA, was witness to the 1846 pension application of Martin DEER in the Madison Co., VA court. (Madison Co. out of Culpeper Co. in 1794; they are adjacent counties) In order for the Benjamin in IL in 1830 to be witness to 1832 and 1846 pension applications in VA, Benjamin would have to have returned from IL after 1830 and before 1832. This is not an impossibility, but some confirming evidence is necessary. The are no records that Benjamin HUFFMAN made application for a pension in his own behalf. Since RW pensions were based on need, it can be concluded that no Benjamin was needy enough to qualify for a pension. The main task ahead is to identify Benjamin 4 who was alive in 1846. The purpose of which is to determine, if he is the same as Benjamin 3. Interested parties please contact me at <hfthusma@aol.com> Best regards, Hugh

I don't know if this is effecting all the lists or not but this hacker downloading a virus has caused most of the genealogy sites on line to be inaccessible. And a lot of your email messages to the list are not coming through. I think the attorney general and the department of justice should do more to stop this. We, are innocent bystanders of some higher corruption. If everyone on these lists would send a protest to the attorney general maybe they would be more receptive to trying to stop them from tying up our sites. The email address is AskDOJ@usdoj.gov
