A lot of us on these lists are not Virginia residents. Maybe the legislators would not listen to our voices. I have an idea. There are a lot of people out there who are not actively researching these records. BUT I am sure they are interested in preserving records of their ancestors. We could start a campaign. Call and write letters to newspapers and TV stations making it public knowledge as to what is happening here and in other courthouses and libraries across Virginia and the United States. I for one belong to the A&E newsletter. Since A&E is connected to the website genealogy.com and a sister station of History I am going to email them with this situation. If we bombard these stations with our email also, maybe, just maybe it will call it to the attention of people who do not know about this. Every little bit would help.

Some time ago, someone asked about Presley Rixey; because I am interested in Rixeys (we live in Sam Rixey's house), I have kept an eye out for him. In the second Register of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, which I am just beginning to transcribe, I have found the following: "Presley M. Rixey baptized February 5, 1888 by W. T. Roberts; parents Presley M. and Mary F. Rixey." Under confirmations I found "A. Bruce Rixey & Alf. S. Rixey, confirmed May 4, 1875." I don't know if the A. stands for a male or female name. Perhaps someone else does. I hope that helps someone. Donna
