    1. [VACulpeper] Glover/Glovier northwest of Winchester
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Glover Glovier Finch Taylor Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/2327 Message Board Post: It appears that there were three Glovers in the Winchester, VA, area between 1785 and 1810 or so: John, Richard, and William. William apparently had only a daughter. John and Richard both had land near Isaac's Creek and Hoge Creek, not far from present-day Gainsboro (originally Pughsville), seven miles northwest of Winchester. There were Taylors in the Winchester area as well, and one of the Glovers married a Taylor in 1815 in Rockingham County. It's possible that Richard's children were born in Frederick County before dispersing to Rockingham, Shenandoah, and possibly Hardy Counties. And last, there seems to have been something of a trend of migration from Frederick County into Hardy and then on to Licking County, OH. JDG jd-glover@attbi.com

Surnames: Smith/Stover Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/1568.1569.1573 Message Board Post: Hi, do you have any information on a James Smith, b 5 Aug 1807 and married Mary Stover, b. 21 Jul 1809. They were married 18 Aug 1829, by Daniel James, minister. On the 1820 census it appears that they are living very close to both Hedgmond and Austin Smith, so I am thinking that he must be a son of one of Joel Smith's sons. He's too old to be Hedgmond's son, so he must be a nephew. Do you have any information?

    1. [VACulpeper] Little Fork Colony of Culpeper Co., VA in 1800
    2. By 1800 was the Little Fork Colony (LFC) still a cohesive community? By 1800 the LFC immigrant, Hans Henrick HOFMANN (aka Henry HUFFMAN), had died, but his son, Tillman was alive and married to his second wife, Margaret (Williams) FREEMAN, widow. Tillman's son, Benjamin, was about 37 and married as his first son, William Riley HUFFMAN, was b. 1792 in Culpeper Co., VA Nathan, seventh child of Benjamin HUFFMAN, was reportedly born near Culpeper Court House c1801. (based on 1850 age of 49). Also see Goodspeed, The Goodspeed Histories of Sabastian County, Arkansas, orig pub 1889, repub by Woodward and Stinson Printing Co., Columbia, Tennessee, 1977, p 1327 Using current day Jeffersonton, Culpeper Co., VA as a bench mark for the location of the LFC, I estimate that the Colony was about 10 miles from the Culpeper Court House (CCH). Alternatively, there is the FREEMAN-HUFFMAN House "located 4 miles west of Culpeper off Rt. 522 on 633, ******** For many years the place was owned by the Freemans and Huffmans." It is evident that the FREEMAN-HUFFMAN House is closer to CCH than the LFC and that Nathan's birth place may well have been the FREEMAN-HUFFMAN House. The history of the ownership of the FREEMAN-HUFFMAN House is of interest to me. Is there any detailed ownership information available? Best regards, Hugh
