    3. At four in the morning, URL's get lost......sorry! :-[ I found this while searching the Rootsweb Archives, which if you haven't done it for awhile, you might try. I have a tendency to forget it's there. I have not been to this site, but as I search for others I try to keep in mind the "Culpeper names," particularly those of our CGS members to relay them to you. Another resource I'd forgotten about is Funeralnet, which contains more recent submitted obituaries, directions to funeral homes, etc. that could yield lots of good information. Happy Hunting! Donna HOFFMAN, HAFNER, BOTTGER, FAWCETT, O'CALLAGHAN, HAUSELMAN, FLICK, and VOLTZ (FOLTZ) families of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. The author's HOFFMAN and BOTTGER ancestors emigrated from Hattenbach, Hersfeld, Hesse; HAFNER from Wellendingen, Württemberg; O'CALLAGHAN from Dublin, Ireland; FAWCETT from County Durham, England; and HAUSELMAN from Lotzwil, Berne Switzerland. Also included is information on more than 1,000 HOFFMANs from Cuyahoga County -- unrelated to the author. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hoffmanetal <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ehoffmanetal>/

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QBC.2ACI/1311.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: How about this, if you look in the military records for the War of 1812, you see Mark Patterson Duncan who served in the Kentucky militia under Captain Davenport and Captain Barbee. I tried to look for the muster roll sheet for these two regiments, but could not find Mark's name. It was also rumored that he lost an arm in the war. War does allow for movement and Virginia - Tennessee - Kentucky seems possible. If he married at 25, he would have been 35 when he enlisted. Elizabeth was at home taking care of the kids in Logan County. I received a copy of the marriage certificate between Mark and Elizabeth, Mark signed his name, so he was somewhat intelligent. See what you can come up with - I have Mark Sr. death between 1830 and 1840. John W. McSherry

I do not know if I am searching for the same Mark Patterson Duncan, some researchers place the Mark Duncan who was married to Elizabeth Harvey as also the husband of Annie Moore. Mark and Annie are my gr,gr,gr grandparents. I have successfully researched several of their descendants (including a Mark Patterson Duncan is Texas). Mark Patterson Duncan obtained a business license in Robertson County, Tn in 1826 by Act of Court. But by 1840 he is in Montgomery County, TN. By 1850 only Annie is listed as living with one of their sons. There is also a Martin Duncan who appears to be a close relative of Mark's in Robertson County. Do you think your Mark Patterson Duncan and my Mark Patterson Duncan are the same man?

It begins the actual lineage with James Lillard who married Kesiah Bradley and has a (_?_) as his parent. You may want to go to the library and look at a copy of this book to read the chapter on Colonial Virginia Lillards to give you some leads as to what has been found and where to go looking for the info you seek. There is also a chapter on the Bradley-Lillard Connections. Regards, Lillie Dodson Marshall

Then around 1823, they moved to Logan County, Va. All of these counties are in the present day West Virginia. West Virginia did not become a state until 1863. In the 1830 Mark Duncan is documented. Then in the 1850 census, Mark P. Duncan has a wife Anna Canady. So, this means there was a Mark Sr. and Mark Jr. Go to www.google.com and type in Mark Duncan Logan County and you will get alot of stuff Where did Mark Sr. originate from? Monroe County and Greenbrier County were once one county. There was one family of Duncans named John Duncan and Elizabeth Patterson. We are trying to determine if these are Mark's Sr. parents. See what you can dig up from the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census. Our family was Mark Jr., Henderson, John, Evert, Vernon Good Luck

    3. Hi, I am new to the Culpeper County, Virginia mailing list. I have been picking apart Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties by way of LDS film records, where my Keys (Keyes), Furr, Waters, and Deatherage families lived and intermingled. My direct line is through the Keys and Furr. Jane married William Keyes. Landy P. Waters Sr. was Jane Furr's grandfather. Her mother was Susanna Waters, wife of Enoch Furr Jr. and was the deceased daughter of Landy P. Waters Sr. at the time of his will. Mary Ann Waters married Mumford Blackwell and Catherine Waters married George Deatherage. Both Mary Ann and Catherine were daughters of Landy P. Waters Sr. and sisters to Susanna Waters Furr, and thereby aunts to our Jane Furr. I have tracked my relations from OK/TX back to Carroll County, AR, with a short time period in Polk County, Missouri, then back to Monroe County, KY and finally to Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Orange Counties in the time period of 1790 to roughly 1842, when they left Virginia for Kentucky. Would be interested in communicating with others who are researching the Keyes (Keys), Furr, Waters, and Deatherage surnames of this area.
