    3. To follow up on Kathleen's posting, Aaron Huffman M. Betsey Hume 25 Mar 1817 min. Daniel James. [p. 45]; Mary Huffman m. Morgan Campbell 16 May 1807; min. Lewis Conner (Baptist) [p. 117]. There is another Mary listed with the surname spelled with only one "F" --Mary & Jacob Maggert 26 Mar 1787 min. William Mason (Baptist). Neither Benjamin nor Margaret are listed. These are from _Culpeper County Marriages, 1780-1853_, by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., Iberian Publishing Co., Athens, Georgia 1984.     2. According to some of the marriages listed for the Huffman names, I found the following: Madison County, Va.: Abraham Huffman married Ann Taylor 4/4/1810 Abraham L. Huffman married Mary Ann Rouse 5/16/1848 Eve Huffman married Adam Darnelson 4/9/1801 Aaron Huffman married Jane Ehart 1/9/1840 I also found a Leannah Huffman in Madison Co. who married Larkin Deal 2/25/1835. She could have been married more then once, since you had her married to Matthias Huffman.

Their children: Tilman John Henry Joseph Hermon Elizabeth who married Jno Young Catherine Mary Alice Susannah Eve As of Sept 6, 1783 Tilman served in the Revolutionary Troop from Culpeper, in a campaign against the French and Indians about 1752. Notes from St Mark's Parish.     3. Hi Hugh, Per the Germanna Record #3, I have Jacob Huffman who married Mary Floyd as the son of Jacob Huffman (b. 03 Dec 1733 in Spotsylvania Co., d. 1815 in Madison Co.) & Barbara ?. I list their other children as Benjamin (m. Catherine ?), Solomon (m. Elizabeth Tanner), Abraham (m. Ann Taylor), Aaron, Eve (m. Adam Darnelson), Caty (m. Reuben Huffman, son of John Huffman, Jr. & Alse Fishback), Mary, Margaret (m. ? Floyd), Susannah (m. Christopher Tanner), Leannah (m. Matthias Huffman, son of George Huffman). I haven't added any other data to my notes on these Huffmans as they aren't in my direct line and I haven't done any personal research on them. It has occurred to me that these males may have had different second names and used them in other circumstances. My wife is a descendant of the John Deer who married Mary Blankenbaker and had son Simeon Deer who had son Fountain Deer/Dear etc. This John was supposed to be John Elijah Deer and his father John Jeremiah Deer/Hirsch etc. However, there were two John Deers who died in 1781 and they both had sons named John. How do we know which one ties back to the Hirsch line? Here are the two 1781 wills: Dear, Jno 1781 Will Book 3, 1778-1801 reel 24 p. 34-35 Will probated 25 Oct 1781, Part of index to Orange Co. Wills and Administrations, Orange Co. VA Deer, John 1781, Will Book B, 1770-1783 Reel 31, p. 422-423 Will probated 18 June 1781, p. 429-430 Inventory and Appraisal recorded Aug 20, 1781. Part of index to Culpeper County Wills and Administrations, Culpeper Co. VA. Here is the will of the John "Dear" in Culpeper Co. Said to be John Jeremiah Hirsch. (An 1838 land transaction in Orange county was signed by Jeremiah Dear and his wife Rebecca!) AIn the name of God Amen I John Deer of Culpeper County being weak and sick but in perfect sence and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament revoking all other wills heretofore made. I recommend my body to the grave to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors and secondly my soul unto God who gave it to me. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catherine one third part of all my estate both real and personal during her life and at her death to be equally divided among my children. Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Deer seven pounds ten shillings cash in the old way to be raised out of my estate to her and her heirs forever and if she should die before marriage that to fall to my daughter Elizabeth.     3. I just found that there was a William R. Freeman, b. l8l9 in Culpepper Va. This was on a site for census. His father was listed as John and no mother known. Anyone have any info on this man? I have Civil War papers listing my gg grandfather as William R., but on a death certificate of one of his sons, it stated William H. Not sure which is right, so I am searching both. Your help would be so appreciated. Becky

    3. I am trying to find info on the Freeman's that lived in Culpepper Va. It appears from census, that a Robert and James were early settlers there. There was a John Freeman, son of Robert and Elizabeth Freeman that married an Elizabeth Isabell in Surry Co. NC in July, l797. I am trying to find if any of the Culpepper Va. Freeman's might have relocated to Surry - Wilkes - Montgomey Counties early in the l800's or late l700's. My brick wall is finding the parents of my gg grandfather William H (R?) Freeman b. about l8l8 married to Hannah (Mary) Dunn b. l8l9. In l860 they settled in Yadkin Co.(Surry Co, until l850) and he enlisted in the Civil War in Iredell Co. and was killed at Spotsylvania Courthouse on May l3, l864..
