    2. Jean Loudin
    3. Since Daniel Boone is my cousin through his aunt, what is it you need to know? I might have it. Do you want to know where his family lived during his life? This is just off the top of my head without looking it up, but I believe Daniel was born in Pa. and then the family migrated to North Carolina, but there was a time period that he lived in what is now WV on the Kanawha River before he finally ended up in Kentucky. Are you wanting to know if he ever lived in Culpepper County? I don't think so, but I can do further checking if you do not get an answer from someone else. Jean

    1. [VACULPEP] Piner/Swindle marriage
    2. Craig Schenk
    3. Hello all... I'm trying to locate anyone with a copy of the marriage record of Thomas Piner and Elizabeth Swindle, married 22 Dec 1791 in Culpeper. I've seen numerous citations of the marriage record but would like to find a copy of the actual record or at least get a more exact wording of the record. Elizabeth was daughter of John Swindle and Hannah Weaver (of Germanna descent). Thomas Piner was son of Thomas Sr. and Margaret Walker. I'd also be curious if anyone knows anything about either Thomas Sr. or Margaret Walker. All I really know is that they existed, were Thomas Jr's parents, and that Thomas Sr. died in 1777. I don't know if the Piners were of Germanna descent or were English, and I know nothing at all of the Walkers. Also curious if anyone knows how Daniel Boone may have been connected to this area. My ancestry goes through Columbus Piner, son of Presley Piner, son of Thomas Piner and Elizabeth Swindle. Old family tradition claims that Columbus head west to Missouri by way of Kentucky with Daniel Boone. It seems many Culpeper folks (especially of Germanna descent) ended up going the same route. It would be an interesting connection to history if true, but unfortunately I don't know all that much about Boone (yet).

    3. The request is for "to" and "too" and why not "two"? Reminds me of a joke ... another time. TO is a word showing direction; its part of speech is preposition. TOO is an adverb which modifies another adverb as in TOO MUCH, an adjective as in TOO FUNNY or a verb as in the example given below. Example: My mother sent me TO the store to buy some vegetables. She doesn't know it, but I saved out some money to buy ice cream TOO. Now, I'm asking for a favor from all of you Culpeper researchers. I used to say I'd like a dollar for every time I would tell my college English Lit. and Comp. students some rule or another!! So here goes with Sarah's question about the difference between "there" and 'their," and the use of "and" instead of "an". First, "and" and "an" -- "and" is a conjunction, a joining word. "An" is an article as are "a" and "the." "And" and "a" are never interchangeable as they're different parts of speech and usage. Better to think of "an" versus "a," I think. Use A before most words except those beginning with vowels or vowel sounds. Examples: "I ate AN apple but I'd rather have eaten A pear." OR "It's been AN honor being asked to give you AN English lesson in grammar AND usage." (Remember that you have to "hear" the language; the word "honor" doesn't begin with the sound of h but with the sound of O as in ON. The h is silent.) Second, "their" and "there" and why not "they're"? "Their" is a personal pronoun showing possession as in "The students took THEIR books to the library and put them on the desk over THERE." "There" is used in a number of ways; in the former sentence, it's an adverb showing place. (You can look up any of these words in a good dictionary for multiple meanings and usages.) "They're" is a contraction of the personal pronoun "they" and the verb "are." Example: "They're all going to get good and sick of English grammar lessons if that woman persists in being so wordy!" Last, don't take what I say as gospel; check it out for yourself and see if it makes sense. And always know the context of words you've chosen to write. Once you know what each of them means, it will make it less confusing for you. Now ... anyone for "its" and "it's"????
