    2. I think it would be well worth your while to plug into the Germanna Colonies, you might want to search through the daily notes that John Blankenbaker publishes as he has quite a bit of info about these particular families. There Germanna Foundation site is: _www.germanna.org_ (http://www.germanna.org) and John's page is at: _www.germanna.com_ (http://www.germanna.com) Barb Price Researching: Holtzclaw/Otterbach/Fishback/Heimbach/Burnes/Hardy/Graham/Hardin....

These people were descendants of members of the Germanna Colony that settled in Culpeper and Madison very early. I suggest that you visit the Germanna web site and explore it thoroughly; are these your ancestors? You might, then, want to join their association. The spelling of the name has changed over the years, but surely you know someone who drives a Chrysler?.....

From Early Settlers of Alabama by Col James Edmonds Saunders of Lawrence County AL & his granddaughter Elizabeth Saunders Blair Stubbs of New Orleans LA My g ggrandfather Joel E. Wynne married (his second) a Margaret Ross, who may have been German. There is one census where the enumerator spelled their daughter's name Margueritta. I've never been able to trace the Ross’s, but see Goodspeed's Shelby Co TN for a possible link to some Germans by that name. Joel Wynne was living in Henderson and or Madison Co TN at the time- late 1830s- before moving to Marshall Co MS by 1840. The Wynnes were from Amelia Co VA. then Wilson Co TN. Levette Pointer's grave in Hernando DeSoto Co MS says he was married to Susy Oliver Yates, but I have him there on the 1910 census and he's living with his in-laws. They are hard to make out, but definitely they are not Yates. He was Dr. David Pointer's grandson born in 1862 in Assumption LA to David Pointer Jr and Leonora Smith Pointer. Terry I just received three pages out of the old Lockhart family Bible( I don't know what happened to the rest of it but was glad to get what I did) It shows that Mary Christine Ried Lockhart died on Dec.24,1901, this matches the tombstone in the Pontotoc cemetery that shows her parents to be Ed and M.E. Lockhart. The next entry on this page show that Mary E or possibly F (really hard to read) Jones Lockhart wife of E.D. Lockhart died on Oct. 9 1902. I know E.D. Lockhart was Edwin Deleon and he was born August 13 1867 but I do not know when or where he died. I really feel this Mary was the babies mother. Found this in a January 1905 volume of the William and Mary Quarterlies: Ser. 1, Vol. 13, No. 3, p. 168 Thomas TABB married, in October, 1814, Mary T. Bolling (marriage bond), daughter of Thomas Tabb Bolling, and died prior to 1823, when his widow married Gen. Ross. Thomas Tabb left an only son, Thomas B. Tabb, who died about 1860. The said Thomas B. Tabb left four children: (1) Virginia Gordon Tabb, who married William A. BOHANNON; (2) John F. Ross Tabb, who died about 1879, leaving his widow, Amanda L., and the following children, viz., Mary Bolling, who married Charles E. Heisig; Charles Ross Tabb, who married Alice Tabb; Erwin L. and Elizabeth Lanear Tabb; (3) Laura T., who married John M. Moody, and had William Mason Moody; (4) Mary e., who married Lockhart and had one child, Annie E. Lockhart (papers in Richmond Chancery Court: William A. William was born in Culpeper County July 4, 1811 and Ellen E Hord Palmer was born Feb. 6, 1813. At some point after their marriage they moved to Giles County Tennessee and lived in that part of Giles that was placed in Marshall County in about 1874. They are buried in Beechwood Cemetery in Cornersville, Tennessee. I will appreciate any help in locating their families in Virginia. Patricia Caneer Gardner a gggranddaughter of the Palmer/Hord families. > > From: [email protected] > Date: 2006/08/28 Mon PM 08:46:33 EDT > To: [email protected] > Subject: [VACULPEP] Re: Parkers > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Parker, White > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/2168.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Benjamin White's parents were Daniel White and Hannah Hunt. > > > ==== VACULPEP Mailing List ==== > NOTICE: The posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Surnames: Parker, White Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/2768.1 Message Board Post: I am searching for the same proof. According to Parker DNA Elder John Parker belongs to the Parker DNA Family Group 5 with the oldest ancester being Robert Parker of Barnstable, Mass. Its the "inbetween" that is hard to distinguish. PARKER Family Group 5 P01 and P32 match on 35 of 37 markers. The oldest ancestor of P01 is Robert PARKER, b abt 1630 in England, and emigrated to Plymouth Colony MA. Robert PARKER married first Sarah JAMES, and second, Patience COBB. The oldest ancestor of P32 is John PARKER, b 1760-70. The DNA test has made it possible for P32 to determine his relationship to the line of P01. P41 was added to this group on 25 March 2005. He matches P32 35/37, and P01 34/37. P41 is descended from Daniel PARKER, son of Elder John PARKER, who was born 1758 in Baltimore Co. Md, and died 1836 in Fort Parker, Texas. This is the line of Cynthia PARKER, mother of Quanah PARKER. This match was unexpected by both PARKER lines, and his given them new areas for research. P45 was added to this family group on 30 May 2005. He is descended from Benjamin PARKER, son of Elder John PARKER. Benjamin is the brother of Daniel PARKER, ancestor of P41. With matching DNA samples from descendents of two different sons of elder John PARKER, b 1758 Baltimore, MD, we are confident that we have the DNA profile of this line. Anyone with a family oral tradition of descent from Elder John and the line of Cynthia PARKER, can now confirm or disprove that by comparing their DNA to P41 and P45. P67 was added to this group on 29 October 2005, following receipt of his DNA results. He matches P32 and P45 on 23 of 25 markers. His oldest ancestor is Robert PARKER of Barnstable, Mass. and his second wife, Patience COBB. He had been exchanging information with P01 about their lineage prior to the DNA test. P72 was added to this group on 13 Dec 2005 following receipt of his DNA test results. He matches the mode for this group on 31 of 32 markers. DNA testing has resulted in a revision of the genealogy of P72 (and many more PARKERs). It now appears that P72 does not descend from John PARKER, 1569 Southhampton, England. His oldest confirmed PARKER is now George PARKER, born 1695-1770, who married Sarah WARRINGTON. P97 was added to Parker Family group 5 on 17 May 2006. He matches the modal values for this group on 25 of 25 markers. His oldest confirmed ancestor is George PARKER who died in Worcester (now Wicomico) County, Maryland in 1770. He wife was Sarah WARRINGTON. As is the case for P72, P97 also thought that his line of descent was from John PARKER, 1569, Southhampton England, prior to the DNA test. It is now apparent that there were at least two unrelated PARKER lines in the Eastern Shore area in the early 1700's. And of course they used the same given names in both lines, making separation difficult. P107 was added to this group on 8 July 2006. He matches the modal values for Family Group 5 on all 37 markers tested. The oldest ancestor of P107 is George PARKER born about 1695-1705, place unknown. He died in 1770 in Worcester Co., MD. George married Sarah WARRINGTON after February 1726 in Worcester Co., MD. Sarah was born about 1704 in Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex County, DE, and died after 1770 in Worcester Co., MD. P112 was added to Parker Family 5 on 5 August 2006. He matches the modal values for this group on 35 of 37 markers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/park5.htm#FG5

Therefor, one would cite the above-referenced work as being published by Virginia State Library and Archives. While many publishing entities may change the name of a business, it is by the name under which the work was published that one would find the work.

    1. RE: [VACULPEP] Citing Locations - use the name at the time of the record
    2. Jim Bartlett
    3. Some of my ancestors came from what is now WV, but for all dates before 1863 I list them as Harrison Co, WV, and later as Harrison Co, VA - keeping with the place as it was named at the time in history. Floyd Co, VA came from Montgomery Co, VA in 1831, so the pre-1831 records are listed in Montgomery Co, VA. If I'm writing about it, I often say, in the part of Montgomery Co, VA that later became Floyd Co, VA. In your case, I would always use the original place at the time the record was established. It is almost always possible to determine who has those records now. But if you use the current location, you, and your readers, will lose the original name and specific location. Jim Bartlett -----Original Message----- From: Craig Kilby [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, August 27, 2006 8:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [VACULPEP] Citing Locations To all: I sent this to many lists and have had many responses. The basic question was, in citing an event (let's say a marriage), how do we cite it as to its location? Do we cite as to when it happened, and where it happened at that time? Or do we cite it as to where we would find that record today? For example, a marriage that took place in "Pattonville, St. Louis County, Missouri" in 1838 would now (today) be recorded in "St. Louis County Marriage Book B, p. xxx". And that record book would today be housed in the St. Louis CITY Circuit Clerk's office, in downtown St. Louis, which, after 1878, became a seperate political entity. After 1878, the records of anyplace in St. Louis COUNTY (newly created entity) would be housed in Clayton, Missouri (newly created county seat of newly created St. Louis County). So now we have this 1856 marriage that actually occured in the place called Pattonville, now called Bridgeton. The marriage record is at St. Louis CITY. Did the marriage occur there? No. I occured in Pattonville. But it is recorded in the CITY records. And where is Pattonville now? Nowhere? It was a post office cross-roads, now gobbled up in what is now the city of Bridgeton. Does the city of Bridgeton have record of this marriage? Nope. It happened before it came to existance and those records are at, guess where? City of St. Louis! So, naturally, one would cite the actual source or where the record is housed, and note the changes of locations. The issue here was that the local SAR wants the source cited to its current locale, to avoid just this sort of confusion. REMEMBER, this thread started out as to whether to cite the publisher of a book as "Virginia State Library and Archives" or as "Library of Virginia" (its modern name). 3. Dear Paul, HST was my fourth cousin, twice removed. It was on his Kentucky Shipp family side that we are related. The story goes that there were two families in his background whose surname began with S. I have both of them somewhere, but only remember the Shipps. HST's mother wanted not to slight either one of them so she gave her son the middle initial S and let each one think it stood for their surname. She sounds like a Solomonaic-type person. 2. Along those same lines I have found a number of families not giving their daughters middle names so that the maiden name could carry on after marriage. One of my girls just stopped using her middle name in order to use her maiden name as a middle name. It sure helps when following a female line.
