Did a google search and found these resources specific to cemetery preservation in Virginia: Cemetery Preservation: _http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/homepage_general/OLD_faq_cem_%20presv.htm_ (http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/homepage_general/OLD_faq_cem_%20presv.htm) Virginia - Saving Graves: _http://www.savinggraves-us.org/va/index.htm_ (http://www.savinggraves-us.org/va/index.htm) Perhaps the above can help. The only evidence we've seen, to even verify his existence, is his name on a list of Virginia taxpayers from 1782-87. Oakleys seem to have lived in Virginia since very early days; we have seen records from the mid-1600s which list Oakleys, but this Henry has been one of the most elusive. A man whom we believe to be his son, Henry Jr. (though he never used the "Jr."), was born about 1790 in VA, and later moved to central TN. Thanks.

Yes, look on the 1880 census for his parents or their respective parents/possibilities. --I know several years early but he may have had siblings or parents may have been with parents/family. The best census is to look on the 1900 census which will tell when he was born: month & year; where born; where parents were born. I hope this helps. In another book on Culpeper, it mentions an Anthony Haynie as a trustee along with other people of Jamestown, Culpeper Co., Va. Jamestown was for 1798. CULPEPER, A Virginia County's History Through 1920 by Eugene M. Scheel, copyright 1982. pg.82. I hope this helps you find a link to your ancestor. There is a mention of a A. Haynie, a Trustee; 25 acres of land were set aside by a General Assembly to be called Jamestown in Culpeper Co., Va.; A. Haynie along with several other people were Trustees of Jamestown. This is in the book "Notes on Culpeper" by Raleigh Travers Green in 1900. pg. I 112 which means first part of book, page 112. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 5:52 AM Subject: [VACULPEP] Charles Haynie > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Haynie, Smith, Bond, Custis > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QBC.2ACI/2895 > > Message Board Post: > > Charles Haynie was born on Oct 13, 1794 in Culpeper, VA. VA does have laws, that is why so many graves are bulldozed before anyone knows. I was horrified when I heard this but I sort of understand that when people find signs of graves they don't want to lose control if they want to develop, but that is only sort of. Rebecca in good ole Texas. Thanks for the Info. Should locals arrange to clean up this Cemetery, certainly they would appreciate copies of your documentation and pictures. If the Scouts are involved they could further research as part of their Genealogical paper. I note this Cemetery was not listed on the WPA research. Lee
