I'm a descendant of the Germanna Colony and there is a link between Ann Tapp, the wife of Henry Spilman, of the First Colony. Henry Spilman is the son of James Spilman and Alice Huffman (the daughter of Henry Huffman, the 1734 immigrant from the Nassau-Siegen area of Germany); James Spilman is the son of Johannes John Spielman/Spilman and Mary Fischbach, the Immigrants from 1714 and members of the First Gemanna Colony. The Spielman/Spilman family is traced back to the 1500's in Oberschelden and Seelbach, both in the Nassau-Siegen area of Germany and the Fischbach family goes all the way back to the 1400's in the same area. I travelled to Germany with the Germanna Foundation and saw the home of Tyl van Fispe, the oldest ancestor of the Fischbach, in Nierderndorf. He owned an ironworks there as early as 1417. In BC Holtzclaw's book, "Ancestry and Descendants of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia 1714-1750," he discusses the Tapp family, i.e. William Tapp, the father of Ann Tapp, wife of Henry Spilman. William Tapp was married to Jemima Hopper, the daughter of Thomas Hopper. William Tapp was the son of Vincent Tapp and Mary Jett, Vincent Tapp was the son of William Tapp and Christian _________. There is alot more information about these families and you might want to purchase this book from the Germanna Foundation: _www.germanna.org_ (http://www.germanna.org) You might also want to post to the Germanna Colonies List at: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) You might have some cousins there! It would be great if this is your line, as I, too, am a descendant of the First Germanna Colony via the Holtzclaw/Otterbach/Fischbach/Heimbach families. I would be happy to help you with your research. Barb Price ~Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Does anyone have Browns of Culpeper County, Virginal who married into the Doggett line. My first known Brown married a Doggett in about 1781and for generations they seemed to follow each other. I think you will find this William Brown in Orange. The records there may show him married to a widow. Was looking for a William to be ancestor of the James Brown in W.Va. but times and date just didn't match. Sorry I didn't keep records of what I found in the Court House. Think also you may also find the Wll of his father. Lee Hash
