Norman and Jett seemed to have large active families in this county before 1800. I would like to learn IF there is a blood connection between Courtney Norman, Sr., of Culpepper and Clement Norman of Fauquier County? Who is Courtney Norman, III? Is he the son of Courtney Norman, Jr.? Who are the parents of the Alice Jett who married Courtney III in 1792? Thanks! PS: I am open to the idea of paid research.

    1. [VACULPEP] FW: DNA Study Information
    2. Scott D Kendall
    3. We are conducting a Kendall DNA Study. The study is open to all participants of the Kendall families and all variant names. The project is a Y-chromosome DNA surname study. The Y-chromosome only exists in males. It is passed on from fathers to sons virtually unchanged for generations. Therefore, to "directly" participate you must be (1) male; either (2) carry the Kendall surname or a variation of it or (3) descend directly in an unbroken paternal (male-to-male) line from a Kendall male. One other requirement we have is that you share your direct Kendall lineage. This makes interpretations easier if we can compare the DNA results with known/proven lineages. Ladies are extremely valuable to our study. Since they can not directly participate, they can represent their lineages "indirectly" by locating male relatives who fit the requirements, mentioned earlier, to participate in the DNA Study. They can sponsor or raise funds to help cover the cost of the male relative's testing. We researched several companies before we decided upon Relative Genetics. They are the business organization of The Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation www.smgf.org. Relative Genetics gave us the most comprehensive test and services for the most economical price. It also allows us to compare our results with the database at SMGF. The recommended test is the Y-DNA 43 Lineage Establisher. The testing process is relatively (no pun intended) easy. There are no needles, no blood and no pain. The test kit (envelope) is mailed directly to the participant or representative. It contains a consent form, instructions, three cotton swaps, specimen envelope and a return envelope. Simply read the instructions, vigorously swab the inside of your cheek, place the swabs into the specimen envelope, place the specimen envelope inside the return envelope and mail it. The study is as private and confidential as the person being tested wants it to be. We code the names of the participants and only list their earliest known ancestor. You can not see the individual results unless you are accepted as a member of the DNA study. The DNA that is being tested does not contain any medical information and will only be used for genealogical research. We are working on a website to post our "findings" and other Kendall information, but we want to emphasize that you have control of what information you want released. We hope this has been informative and you will consider joining our study. We are looking for direct participants and indirect representatives. If you are interested in the DNA study or the testing process, would like to learn or have any questions or concerns, please contact me. You may also visit Relative Genetics (www.relativegenetics.com). Thanks Scott Kendall

    3. Jeff, I don't have Lathams but friend does. She has a chart that was done by a researcher for her now deceased father probably twenty years ago. All her Lathams were in VA and then came to NC. She told me she had a chart of her lines and I was thinking it was one of those you can do on Ancestry. Well, she brought it over recently and it is this scroll that rolls out about four feet horizontally and all done in ink by hand. It appears her Latham line has connections to Mayflower but I told she would have to prove every bit of what's on it. I've just emailed her suggesting she join the Culpeper email list and told her about you having Lathams. With your permission, may I give her your direct email in case she doesn't get around to this right away. Trying to get her jumpstarted! Her name is Angie Latham Crone. Thanks, Amanda E. And he was very interested in young ladies <grin>. Fayette was a lifelong resident of Culpeper Co, and primarily a lawyer there. He also served as the assistant court clerk and the town clerk during the 1840s, working under his uncle (also a lawyer / clerk) FAYETTE MAUZY. I asked the Library of Virginia where they got the copy of the diaries, and they showed me their accession card that said the original was held in September 1965 by: Miss Catherine Kyle 402 Piedmont Street Culpeper, VA I believe Catherine died April 1980 in Culpeper. 1. Re: [VACULPEP] Informaiton on Jacob Martin, Prince William, VA c 1700's
    2. Winnie, Your William John O'Banion is of interest to me. In KY there was a family of Hagans who married into the Ray Family around the 1800 time frame. My third gr. were Alcy Hagans & Willis Ray. They had a daughter they named Fransis O'Banion Ray. I have thought that Alcy or Willis could have O'Banion connections but have as yet not found that tie. They were from Clark Co. KY when they married but I am not certain where they were born. Alcy was born several years before her father married so it is possible he was married before to someone else. Do you see any possible connection. Serena is my direct ancestor and I have not found, for sure, who her parents were. Serena was living in the household of James Porter Utterback in the 1850 Fauquier Co. Census. Is there a book out there that is factual as to who these Carters were related to?
