I've found a lot of secondary associations between John and Frances Ham. I'll e-mail you separately so we can talk about them. But the primary information comes from John's own testimony in his pension application showing that he never lived in Amherst County but went directly from Culpeper Co VA to Elbert Co GA in 1791. (I've put my abstract of John's application at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/elbert/military/revwar/pensions/davis283gmt.txt ) About the DAR membership. I'd contact your local DAR chapter to find out the process for applying. There's a DAR-related message board and you can ask them where your nearest chapter is. I've found them very good about answering questions. http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.organizations.dar/mb.ashx Look forward to talking with you more. --Joan

No, I have not made any progress in learning more about Reuben Ham and wife Elizabeth Pembleton. Can you possibly tell me more about Lucy? Do you know where Reuben and his wife lived? I can't find many records on them at all. William Ham and his brother Reuben Ham were in Alabama by the latter 1820s, but the 1850-1860 censuses indicate that they were both born in Virginia. Thanks, Tim Hudson

I have a copy of John Davis will. It was dated after wife Sally had passed away. I have some info on his war record in my file. Would need to dig to find it. I have a copy of a deed that has John Davis and wife S. Ann listed. I would like to email you and maybe we can discuss this futher. I also would like to join the DAR but not sure who to contact. LIBRARY OF CONGRESS TO DIGITIZE GENEALOGY BOOKS The Library of Congress just announced that it has received 2 million from the Alfred P. Sloan foundation to digitize thousands of books. Among those to be digitized are "U.S. genealogy and regimental histories. The former includes many useful county, state, and regional histories, while the latter includes histories, memoirs, diaries and other collections from the Civil War period." In the late 1800s, two of my Kilby g-aunts from Culpeper married Spicers, and I found a non-rootsweb mailing list for this family who had a lot of information, particularly from Fauquier County. This was not exactly what I would call a user-friendly group, but it's worth a shot. He is mentioned in Louisa county several times in the 1742 - 1746 time frame. I find him next in Culpeper county and dying there in 1796. In the past I checked with the Library of Virginia regarding Gaffield possibly being Garfield. They stated the name on the revolutionary records were clearly for Gaffield. I did find that the records for Carfield Brown were clearly for Garfield. As far as a "living" male descendant goes, I am a direct descendant of Garfield.
