Hello, I am looking for any "Emmons" that married into your families. Beyond the information that has been provided in John Gott's book, we cannot find any Emmons marriages on the below and there has to be some. Any help would be appreciated. Ah, Winnie! It has been a long time since I worked on the Ballengers. They are not my direct line but as you know from the will of Edward Ballenger his daughter "Agathy" married John Kilby, Jr. This Edward Ballenger lived next to John Kilby, Sr. What is probably throwing you a wrench is that some have included Edward Ballenger as one of the Germanna colonists. This may or may not be true. Regardless, there was another, completely different, Ballenger family in Virginia. Somewhere in my files, I have a copy of many chapters from a book about them. I apologize for mentioning this without looking it up, but at the moment my files and about half of my house are in total disarray due to some remodeling. Let's definitely keep this thread alive. (I've seen his wife's name given as Mary WILLIAMS, and I would like a source for that....this may apply to another Edward Ballenger, not the one who died in Culpeper.) Marriage conflict between Margery Ballinger's birth and the marriage of her father, Edward Ballinger and Mary Williams I have Edward married 1736 in Orange County, VA to Mary Williams. I know Margery was Edward's daughter from his will saying she was married to Stokeley Towles Jr. (will dated 9 Dec, 1779, probated 20 March 1780) Margery couldn't be born in 1732. My ggggrandfather, Daniel Emmons, sued John P. Kelly. Is he one of your relatives? If you Google Virginia Chancery Records you'll get to the site. Use the pull down menu to enter Fauquier, then, either Emmons or Kelly. You should be able to access the lawsuit. It's about 30 pages or so. Let me know if you have any problems. It means four men with the last name Fletcher were living in that district. Were they all related? Who knows. Very likely, but not necessarily. It does tell me each of these men was heading their own household at least over age 16. How many tithes are listed in each household? (Those are white males over 16, not necessarily family members, and slaves.) You'll have to dig a lot deeper than a tithe list to sort out the relationships. When you find four people with the same last name listed together on the Tithable and personal property tax list, "Thomas Marshall's 1759 Tithables list of Southern district" does that mean they belong to the same family? I found William Fletcher, James Fletcher, Aaron Fletcher and Thos. Fletcher with 4 counted on line together. Are they somehow related? I'd appreciate it if someone could explain it to me. This William Stanton was the son of William Stanton Sr who died 1763 Culpeper Co. William Stanton Jr married Lucy Blackwell Sept 24 1773 Faquier Co VA.
