    1. [VACRAIG-L] Two Carper Lines?
    2. Vince Summers
    3. Well, folks... My mother-in-law says that there were two Carper lines that were separate. They just didn't cross. While I don't buy that ultimately -- too coincidental -- I do think it is possible they don't join at Craig County. Still ... Here is a family of Carpers I got from microfilm of the 1880 Craig County Census... CARPER, Oscar WM36 Farmer Manda WF32 Wife Keeping House James WM12 Son Laborer Ballard WM10 Son Amma(?) WF7 Daughter Ettie B WF5 Daughter Amanda WF2 Daughter The above are listed just above the household of Samuel Leffel and Liza Ann and Fannie, their daughter. Now, how do I put this... Is there any connection between this line, and, say, Allen M. Carper, or Howard Burns Carper, or Charles Edward Carper, or any of that family line? 1. Fw: [VACRAIG-L] Where is Gravel Hill?
    2. Sandy & Phil Carneiro
    3. Hi Curt, Hope everything is going well and the holidays are good for you. Not sure I know the answer to this one but there is a book (which I don't have naturally) called "The Gravel Hill Christian Church", not sure if the book is written by W.G. Johnston or if this person just wrote the first part of it. I only have a few pages from it and it was builted between 1832 and 1835. They were followers of Alexander Campbell, known as "Reformers", and followers of Barton W. Stone, known as "Christian". These two groups formed a union. I'm not even sure if the church is still there, I didn't see it but the time I visited Craig County I wasn't looking for it. On my map it shows "Gravel Hill" between Route 624 and Route 628. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Vince, Paint Bank is the most charming little town just on the border of West Virginia. According to my map of Craig County you take Route 311 out of New Castle and it is a drive over mountains but it is so beautiful. Paint Bank size wise on this map looks to be about 3/4's the size of New Castle but probably on 1/10 the people. If you continue on 311 heading towards W.Va. you will go to Covington. My gr gr grandparents Adam & Barbary Smith are buried in the fork of the road between 311 and 512 . I think someone asked where Level Green Church and cemetery is and the best I can remember is it is either on Route 629 or Route 42 which both run southwest toward Giles County out of New Castle. Hope this answers your question (the top part anyway) if not ask me again. My mind is in slow gear lately. 3. Hi, all... I saw a post the other day. FRANCISCO and how the name likely was connected to Hughs, Hughes, Huse, or some other spelling. Although this is connected through Lloyd Preston Ferrel for me, it is only through a second wife, or a sort of Half-Family, and is not a primary thread. Nonetheless, I am interested in as many details as possible for that first FRANCISCO connection. Thanks for any help! Vince

    2. I have some data on the Tingler family which married into the Humphreys family of Paint Bank. Without going back into my paper records and checking, I believe the Tingler family I have data on is that of Henry. It is not in my line----that of my step-father----but he did have a family tree chart done by one of the Tingler daughters and I have the data from that, plus some from his famiy Bible. If you would like to have a copy of what I have, I will send it after the holidays! Charlene Blassingham
