    2. Vince Summers
    3. I have a list that is non-commercial, doesn't compete in any way with Rootsweb, and is open to any who wish to share any techniques or favorite sites, and ideas for general genealogical searching. It has an archive, also. It is on List Bot. It is called Genea-Logical Tips. You can apply if you wish by visiting either one of these 2 homepages of mine... http://VincentSummers.webjump.com/ or http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/3270/ Thanks. BTW, I did ask Curt about this ahead of time, and got no reply, but then I remembered he is not the maillist owner. I hope this is non-offensive. I have posted it in two or three other places... PHILLY-ROOTS-L, for example. I know, though, that rules for each site depend upon the owner. I own the Bath County maillist -- I know. Vince

    1. [VACRAIG-L] Craig History and Mill in Simmonsville
    2. Curt Milton
    3. I received this request for info in my mailbox. Please post any info to the list and I will forward to the requestor. Meanwhile I have invited him or her to join us ... Do you have suggestion for a book on general history of Craig and in particular the history surrounding the mill in Simmonsville? I think it's called Rolling Valley Mill. In addition, I am interested in getting a list of publications the historical society has and ordering information. If someone local to the Newcastle area can get this info for me it will be appreciated, otherwise give me info and I will contact them. 3. Yes Vince, and I'm still trying to find some proof to say that the George Hughs and wife Margaret's son John is mine. George died about 1827 and will names his wife and children: Nancy, Thomas, David; George; James, Sally, John; Marget; Betsy, & Susannah. Son George married Mary Francisco on 25Jan1828 in Botetourt, their children were Lewis; Christopher; John; Martha; Sidney; Sarah; & Mary. I believe the daughter Betsy (sometimes called Polly) married 1813 in Botetourt to Andrew Caldwell. I am trying to prove John who married Delilah Hacket 15May1833 in Giles was their son. John & Delilah's children were: Martha; Robert; Sarah Elizabeth; George; Philip M.; Delilah Clementine; Amanda. 3. The list activity seems slow recently. Maybe that means you are all waiting to hear from someone who needs help? Well, I do! I have seen many references saying my STARNES (STARNS) and ADAMS ancestors went to Hawkins Co., TN, about 1800, from Craig Co., VA. Now you all know, Craig Co., VA, was not officially established until much later. Moreover, none of the people making this claim have any specific information to back it up. And, I have been unable to find any evidence surfing the internet. What I desperately need is for someone in the area to help me prove this link to Craig Co., VA. Or, perhaps, someone out there who knows the area and the STARNES or ADAMS lines to share with me the evidence they have. Specifically, I am hunting for a John James STARNES and Sarah Jane ADAMS, both of whom were born about 1776, married, and had three children before moving from Craig Co., VA, area to Hawkins Co., TN, in 1800. I would appreciate anything you can share on any STARNES or ADAMS family living around 1750-1800 in the area which later became Craig County. Thanks to all! Charles Ed Starnes Corvallis, OR

    3. Hi Folks, Does anyone have any information on the Lignite mines that were located in Oriskany, in Craig County, just outside of New Castle? My great-grandmother's first husband, LEWIS BARGER, was killed in a mine explosion there sometime between 1892 and 1899. I would like to find out the exact date, and possibly get a list of the miners who were killed then. A family rumor says that the miners are still in the mine, that they could not get them out to give them a proper burial. Does anyone know anything about this incident? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Surnames I am researching in Craig County are: BARGER, BURGER, CALDWELL, CHRISTIE, LEE, LUGAR, MANN, MCPHERSON, MILLS, WILLIAMS. Sincerely, Karen Miles-Mitchum darkwolf@usit.net

    3. HiYa Craig Listers! All our Craig County Subscribers are apparently hibernating. With all the freezing temperatures we're having, perhaps their fingers are experiencing the arthritis pain. My own do! Here's a good RootsWeb message policy to keep in mind when you'e concerned about the lack of list messages. Instead of sending out a test, which uses transmission power. Send in a simple surname query to do your test. A good example would be to send a query with your surnames in the subject line, and a simple statement about your family research. You're encouraged to send in your own query, or informational posts anytime. Sandy & Phil Carneiro wrote: Has this line been idle or have I somehow gotten off the mailing list?
