I just found the birth record of a daughter Nancy CROWDER, b. March 27, 1896 in Alleghany County thanks to ANCESTRY.COM'S free database. Isaac's parents were Abel CROWDER and Caroline DRUMMOND. The last trace I have of Abel and Caroline is the 1860 census which listed them as living at Barber's Creek, Craig County. Abel Crowder (37) Caroline Drummond (41) John L. Crowder (11) Elizabeth M. (9) Sarah J. (7) Isaac Abel (3) George R. Drummond (17) -laborer The 1870 census listed the family as living in New Castle Township. Caroline Crowder (50) John L. Crowder (21) Sarah J. Crowder (16) Isaac Abel (13) Any informatiom on this branch of the Crowder family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Madeline Crowder -- SLTG

    3. Yes most certainly! Interesting is the fact that though my mother-in-law remembers the name Sizer, it is not Joseph but the John that you mention (or another), even though he is a tad more distantly related. No doubt the reason, partly, is that Joseph was so far back, and my mother-in-law borders on the superstitious (subconciously) when it comes to the dead. Thanks for helping me with this. Vince

    1. Re: [VACRAIG-L] Milton - Maybe from Fluvanna County
    2. Curt Milton
    3. Mary/Steve and others: I had also been wondering if my Milton ancestors were similarly beamed to Bedford County c. 1830's from who knows where. (I have ancestors who came from Craig County but my Milton line is firmly from Bedford County until their "mysterious appearance" in Bedford County in the 1840? and 1850 Census.) Let me give you what I think is the answer before I bore you with the background. I THINK (no firm proof yet) that the parents of Pleasant, along with Josiah and Samuel Milton who lived in Bedford County are: Joseph and Mary (Kidd) Milton (or Melton) of Fluvanna County. Clues: 1. elder Mary Milton living with Pleasant Milton in 1850 Census 2. Mary Milton head of household in Bedford County 1840 Census 3. Samuel Milton marriage in later life gave his parents as Joseph & Mary and said that Samuel was born in Fluvanna County 4. Josiah and Samuel (both a few years older than Pleasant) married sisters Not a solid case but plausible. Josiah & Samuel were married in the early 1840's in Bedford County where they lived out there lives. When the 1840 census was taken they do not fit into the head count of the Mary Milton household but they may have been working/living in a different household before marriage as they would have been 20-23 years old. This profile seems to fit a family that lost its father. Joseph was older than Mary (this was his second marriage perhaps after death of his first wife) and he disappears from the Fluvanna County land records after 1831. Not sure why Mary would relocate to Bedford as a widow, but we don't know that Joseph didn't die in Bedford either. People that have researched the Fluvanna families aren't sure whom Joseph parents are so things are fuzzy for a couple generations (ugggggh!). I wish I had more info, and more time now to search for more clues! I had been collecting all the info I could from the mid-1800s on Miltons in/around Bedford County since I had no clues as well on where these families came from. I have tried to post most of this stuff at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/4294/miscmilt.html Anyway, these are my thoughts I hope I am not astray with these conclusions - I hope we find out soon! Meanwhile, at least it beats the "these Miltons must have been beamed to earth from Mars theory", maybe! 3. Mary, I don't know if you have this or not but I happen to be typing the 1850 Botetourt Co., VA census and checked it for your family. On page 51B recorded the 23rd day of July 1850 Family #176 Pleasant H. MILTON 22 years old M Farmer born in Virginia Mary Milton 59 years old F VA. Mary I. Milton 19 years old F VA Catharine S. 17 years old F VA Francis L. HOBBS 30 years old M VA. This is the only Milton family in this census. Pleasant's age doesn't fit since your Pleasant was born 1822 and this Pleasant was born 1828. You may want to check the census yourself. John Wilson who recorded the census makes his 7's totally different than his 2's. As for the middle name a B and H can often get mixed up. 3. On the second entry, I misspelt Nicolaus as Nicholaus. I don't want to detract from the fact that EGLE had it strictly as Nicolaus. Vince
