Thanks. No surprise. Often suspected the Clark name at least influenced my father-in-law's name. And Ida Catherine Elder, his wife, may have been the one it influenced more than George. Well, Rena... Just on the basis of Hope more than Expectation, allow me to list some names, and, if you are willing to check these out (Rockbridge), maybe I will get lucky... Lewis P. You all know I have a website now, and I wanted to ask a favor! I have made a "Most Wanted Ancestor" page and need a few most wanted's! LOL You all can be the first to get yours online here. Just send me a message with the name of your ancestor and what county they were from (must have lived in Va or the line from Va.)...and also any info that might help locate them. I'll be adding your email addy to your message so anyone can contact you directly....Good Luck! Vicky http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lake/8464/

The following files were uploaded to the Craig County Archives during April. You may view these files at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/va/craig.htm Will Abstract of Redmon Eakin, 1781 (eakin1.txt), file size 1.9 kb, submitted April 1999 by Curt & Lee Eakin Will of Thomas Eakin, 1799 (eakin2.txt), file size 4.0 kb, submitted April 1999 by Curt & Lee Eakin Will of Nathan Eakin, 1823 (eakin3.txt), file size 10.6 kb, submitted April 1999 by Curt & Lee Eakin Although this is a great improvement considering the last new file we had for Craig County was in January 1997, we still desperately need your help. So far all we have for Craig County is 4 wills, 3 of which were uploaded this month. Does anyone possibly have any other types of documents they could submit? Deeds, vital records, marriage records, biographies, military records, you name it, we would love to have it! No pictures or scanned documents however, only transcriptions are accepted, and text format is preferred, although I am always happy to get a transcription in ANY format, it just slows me down considerably to convert the files to text format. If you would like to submit & need more help, don't hesitate to email me. I'll be glad to help you out! Won't you consider preserving & sharing your treasured documents by submitting a transcription of your own? What a wonderful way to show pride in your heritage while insuring these resources will still be around for future generations! Thank you, Jeannie Watts, archivist.
Hi All! I have added over 100 marriages to my Montgomery Co page. Some are for those of you that signed my guestbook! Happy Hunting! Vicky Agee http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lake/8464/

Hope everyone is having a wonderful spring. Recent queries were posted at the Craig GenWeb site for the following surnames: BELL, SNODGRASS, SMITH, REYNOLDS, RATLIFF, REYNOLDS, FINK, BROCE (or similar name?), RUBLE. Please visit the following link if any of those surnames "ring a bell." http://www.geocities.com:80/Heartland/Ranch/4294/cra_q2.html Have you posted your earliest Craig County ancestors to the Early Individuals page? This is meant to be a sign-post to show others where we are in our research for mutual benefit - giving more data than the surname listing. Please send me your folk, with the information in the same order as posted to allow me to quickly cut and paste - put surname only in all capital letters please and thank you. Here is the link in case you have not been to that page. http://www.geocities.com:80/Heartland/Ranch/4294/cra_ind.html As always, your suggestions are always welcome. Or if anyone is interested in possibly getting involved in web hosting projects associated with Craig County. While I am keeping up some day it may be time to pass the baton to a successor. Dear fellow researchers, I'm trying to solve a contradiction. I have Elizabeth F. Walker married to Thomas Miller Eakin (b. 1824 d. 1900), son of Thomas Miller and Nancy Handley Eakin Jr., Johns Creek, Botetourt Co., VA. Have not yet been able to locate a marriage bond/license. The question is about Elizabeth F. Walker's father. Her mother appears to be Catharine Meyers/Myres. The father may be Daniel "Givens" or Daniel "Monroe" Walker. Daniel Givens Walkers parents are supposed to be John H. and Sarah Susannah Givens Walker. A Roane Co. [WVa] History Book has a complete write up on Daniel Walker' family. It says that Daniel was the seventh child of George and Margaret (Hefner) Walker. He was born in Va. 14 Mar. 1793. He married 8 Apr 1816 to Catherine Myres, b. 31 Oct 1794 in Va. the daughter of Henry Myres, a native of Germany. It said they moved to Roane County, West Virginia, in the Walton area, in 1854. HELP!! Does anyone have verification for which is accurate? THANKS!! Lee (and Curt) Eakin
Hi, folks... It's Vince. I deliberately redid my harddrive to get rid of quirks and arranged to save my bookmarks, but I lost the address book and mail, forgetting to save those, like a dope. I have uploaded at least four more photos, provided by Rena Worthen and her mom, Margarett Tynan. From the Huffman Cemetery. At: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/3270 Please, Rena, and others (you know who you are!) please send me a brief email so that I can once again add your names to my address book. Thanks! Vince p.s. have you been to the online LDS center at: http://www.familysearch.org/ I have gotten tremendous numbers of details on all lines. Gotta watch the accuracy a bit, but it is great. True, one of my kin was christened before it was born, and another was buried before they died... But, no kidding, it is very helpful, especially if you learn some of the little tricks that help you make blind searches!
Hello, I'm relatively new to the Virginia email lists. I've signed up to several lists, as are many of you I'm sure. That being the case, I apologize in advance to those of you who will be getting duplicates. We have concentrated our search primarily in Patrick and Giles Counties because our earliest known ancestor, John (Jr.) was married in Patrick and lived there after marriage. Many of the subsequent generations lived in Giles County. Considering the many boundary changes that have occurred over the years, and the fact that John (Jr.?) may not have originally been from Patrick County, we thought it might be necessary to expand our queries as we haven't been having any success in verifying any of John (Jr.s?) ancestors. John's parents are believed to have been John Clark Sr. and Sarah or Susannah, last name unknown. John may have had a sister named Elizabeth born n the 1770's and a brother named William also born in the 1770's. Listed below is John (Jr's?) children and their spouses. John Clark (Jr.?) born abt 1790 & Elizabeth Wright born abt mid 1790's Patrick County Va. Hi All! Thought maybe you all could use this...it's free for 10 days from Ancestry. Vicky Agee ====================================================== DATABASE OF THE DAY (Free for 10 Days!) <<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>><<<>>> ======================================================= Virginia Marriage Index, 1740-1850 Throughout the 18th and well into the 19th Century, Virginia was one of the most populous states in the Union, being home to as many as 1.2 million persons at any one time. This collection of marriage records includes the names of over 300,000 men and women married in the state between 1740 and 1850. In addition to providing the names of bride and groom, researchers will find the date of marriage and county in which the ceremony was performed. For those seeking married ancestors from Virginia, this database can be a valuable source of information. Bibliography: Dodd, Jordan R, et. al. "Early American Marriages: Virginia."
