I do not mean to always reply to the group. There have been many postings about Charles N. Ruble. These were meant to go to the individual, but VACRAIG's preferences are set to go to the group when the REPLY button is hit. Many groups do not do this. There are pros and cons to each. I apologize to those who are a bit tired of seeing the name CHARLES N. RUBLE! Vince
Funny, I have many, many Carpers. And I have a Malinda/Molina Brickey. (I suspect this of being a derivative of Emmoline, though I have no good reason to say that. But I do not have the names you list. Thanks for checking for the other side of the coin! It helps to hear all sides of the story. I am a new subscriber to this list. My McCormicks are Jubal Wright McCormick and wife Sarah Warren. They came to Craig County from Monroe County, now WV. My information has Jubal as the operator of the hotel in New Castle and the sheriff of Craig County from 1868 to 1872. He was also a cabinet maker. His children were Jubal Jr.(1857), buried in Monroe Cty, Wright (1858), James Warren (my ggrandfather)(11 Jan 1862), Robert (1864), Eliza (1866)and Eddy (1868), maybe more. Jubal served as a lieutenant in the Civil War -Confederate Army in the Rocky Point Greys, a Monroe county company of the 22nd Virginia Infantry. Jubal's father is John W. McCormick married to Susannah Dowdy. If this seems familiar to anyone or if I can help anyone, drop me a line. Mercedes Murphy
Interesting ... never noticed the possible twin set before. Emma Virginia Lipes' mother was a Houseman, and I have found numerous (above average) numbers of twins in my HOUSEMANs. --jsl ----- Original Message ----- From: Vincent Edward Summers <vsummers@nrao.edu> To: <VACRAIG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 28, 1999 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [VACRAIG-L] Charles N. Steve: For Charles NYE (Newton) Ruble and Emma Virginia Lipes: See below I just got dates, but how reliable are they? I am checking LDS now. But I must say that it lists the children fairly thoroughly of Lavesta and James, and calls Charles name as Charles Nyes Ruble. I wonder why... One last thing. I list a Samuel Ruble as one of the children. Do you have any knowledge of this: Could Samuel be James Samuel Ruble, if he even exists? Vince
Thanks, Steve. I entered the data as you list. I still wonder if it is possible that Emma had had a superbrief first marriage to a Brickey, but I am going to not fret over that unless I find it listed somewhere else as a fact! I appreciate your reference, your source! It makes it so much better. Hope your health continues to improve. I have gotten this mail about 15 times please stop!
Jennifer Just thought I would say hi and hope your research is going great. Steve
Vince Thanks for your quick responce. As for the M.M. anything is possible as in those days it really was not uncommon for females to have four names. and then to top it off they would use a nickname. Thanks again Steve
Vince, in the Book Craig County marriages 1851 - 1881 by Ruth Hale on page 50 it list the marriage of Charles Newton Ruble (24) and Emma V. Lipes (17) so if she had had an earlier marriage she would have had to be very young, and it seem if she had then her name would not have been listed as Lipes. Yours, Steve
Vince I do not have a Samuel persee. But I do have a James S. Ruble which probably is James Samuel. As of yet I do not have dates for any of the kids. if you do could you send me that information. Thanks Steve
You who may have documents! I need you (as does Jim Tucker!, if I do not speak presumptuously). Ruth Hale and Pendleton Abstracts present seemingly opposin pictures! One has Charles N. Ruble married to Emma V. Brickey. The other has Charles N. Ruble married to Emma V. Lipes. My guess is that Brickey, although listed as nee, is really a first married name, and a remarriage of Lipes to Ruble is the correct answer. But does anyone really KNOW? Thanks for any and all help! Vince
Vince In the book "Abstracts" done by Dorothy Hall Givens in 1988 on page 217 it states that the Widow of Charles N. Ruble was Emma V. Brickey and that is wrong. I have no idea as to where she got that name . For you see I have the auctual scrapbook right here in front of me and in the obit for Charles N. Ruble is really a In Memoriam and goes like this. {I am not going to type the whole thing at this time} In Memoriam Charles Newton Ruble, the son of James Ruble, of Craig County, was born December 17,1852 and passed to his eternal rest at 5:17 a.m., November 24,1926, aged 73 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was married to Emma Virginia Lipes November 15,1877; to this union was born five children: Walter W. Ruble, of Roanoke, Mrs. Clara M. Reid, of Eagle Rock, James S. Ruble of St.Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Effie Zimmerman and Miss Anna Ruble of Oriskany, VA. It goes on and on, but I think this is what you wanted. Take care, Steve
