Here's another line that I have yet to see any positive leads on. It concerns the ancestors and family of Elizabeth "Wimond", wife of John Hypes, Sr. of early Botetourt Co. Elizabeth was "apparently" a resident of then-Botetourt (present-day Craig Co.) at the time of her marriage, but the only men having a surname that remotely resembled "Wimond" (obviously a misspelling of her German surname) during this era concerned a Jacob and Joseph "Wymand". And the only record I've found to date on them concerns a land purchase by one or both of them in then-Botetourt Co., VA in 1782. No other Botetourt Co., or VA land entry for that matter, appears to exist for them after that. What became of them? Where did they go to (if anywhere)? Although my guess is that one of these two men is the father of Elizabeth, it still leaves me at a "dead end" as to where they came from, who their family members where, where they moved to, etc. as they do not show up in the 1810 census for Botetourt Co. either. Would anyone have any further information about either of these men? I've seen some men in southeastern PA of similar age and different surname spellings that may yield a clue but no other info has been found to date that would possibly tie them in (ancestrally) with these SE Pa settlers. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Elizabeth did have sons by the names of Jacob and Joseph, so it would at least appear that we're on the right track, so...And since many of the German families who settled in SW VA came from SE PA, it's a good bet that the WImonds/Wymands/Weimans/Weyermans, etc. came from that area as well. Any research-related leads would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob
I am seeking ancestral and family information concerning a Mary Ann(a) Davis, who was likely born in either Botetourt (present-day Craig Co.) or Giles Co., VA c 1810. She married an Abraham Hypes of then-Botetourt (present-day Craig) Co., VA c 1837. Abraham, as a point of note, was born c 1811, the son of John Hypes, Sr. and Elizabeth "Wimond"/Wymand/ Weiman/Wyerman (whatever). ANY information, leads or suggestions concerning the ancestors or family of Mary Ann(a) Davis Hypes would be very much appreciated as I have yet to see any information on her family in ANY forum. Surely someone has at least "some" information on her ancestral background as her family just didn't "drop out of the sky". Thanks very much, Bob
Thanks. How do I contact her? Also, do you have a copy of the will of Nicholas, whether scanned, or typed, that you can share with me? Is anyone aware if there is an error in the above book by Peggy Grubbs? Specifically in the "marriage" of Elizabeth Harvey and Nicholas Carper of 1749? Many sites seem to indicate that he married and Elizabeth Shrider. Now, of course, the two could be the same person. Or not. Does anyone have solid evidence one way or the other? I incline toward Shrider, but do not think Peggy Grubbs would have said Harvey without any reason. Some might, but she lists much source generally, and I am reluctant to dismiss her... I think that this may be John "Temper" Caldwell that married Polly Hively. I have listed 9 children for them. Nothing listed for her parents as of yet. In my records also a John Caldwell married a Mary Hively 10-22-1804 Botetourt Co. Va. I did not see the first part of this thread so I hope I am not out of line. Fred W. Steve, I have been researching the Jacob Hively family that lived in what is now Craig County in the early 1800's. One of the daughters, Mary, married a Caldwell. Since Polly is a nickname for Mary this is probably the same person. Do you have any more information concerning this John Caldwell and Polly Hively that will confirm this for me? Rena, I am looking for death data on John Nida, Jr. and his wife, Ann Foster Nida, living in Roanoke Co. with children George, Eva, Sally, Mary, John, Edna and Elizabeth, per Roanoke Co. census of 1850. No records on any of these children or the parents after that census. They were married in Botetourt Co., 02 Mar 1833. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve: The Bowens in question lived in that part of Botetourt County that was often serviced by the Montgomery County Courthouse for marriages, wills, etc. Today, the old Bowen homestead (pile of chimney stones) & cemetery are on the Joyce farm on Rt. 621 in Craig County, about one mile from the Craig-Montgomery border.
