    3. Thanks for the added info on Ludemia. I am going to absorb all this info, but I believe I am only going to footnote the Ludemia C. Lafon name. I have Katherine Ludema Lafon. The source (I forget what it was) gave me all the offspring names in full detail with total middle names and complete dates. I suspect it was a researcher with close ties. And so, for now, I will retain it. sandra henderson wrote: > > Marriages 1851-1881 > Paris W. Eakin 24 a Farmer, B&res of Craig Co. 3. Vince, Alkanah Washington "Cain" Carper was the oldest son of Nicholas (1799) and (2)Sarah (Nida) Carper. Cain was born 15 Oct 1839 after Nicholas & Sarah were married in Giles Co., VA 25 Oct. 1837. Cain had nine siblings. This Nicholas was first married to Lydia Smith 17 Apr 1826 and died in the childbirth of her son, Fleming H. Carper abt. 1828. 1. Re: [VACRAIG] CARPERs Generation 5 (Vince's Post)
    2. Hi Vincent, I was reading through your postings about the Carper family and I thought I recognized Elizabeth Virginia Carper b. Mar 29, 1885 in Craig Co., Va. She married into my Eakin family. She married Mason E. Eakin Feb 13, 1907 in Roanoke, Virginia, son of Paris Eakin and Catherine Lafon. Elizabeth died Mar 15, 1970. I thought I would just pass this on. I didn't have anything on Elizabeth V. Carper, now since your posting, I know quite a bit more about her. I noticed also that you list some of the Carpers, (I think one of them was Christopher Columbus Carper) as being in Roane Co., WV. It so happens that I was born in Roane Co., WV and that is where my Mother's family the Eakin's are from. The above mentioned Mason E. Eakin is a very distant relative of my Eakin family. I also have Elizabeth as being buried at Cedar Lawn Burial Park, Roanoke, Va. along with her husband Mason Eakin. Just thought I would pass this info. on to you. Debra Copen Corra

    2. Vincent Edward Summers
    3. Folks, I apologize for sending 5 emails of data, especially for those not interested in the Carper line... But I think I see evidences of unification in the Carper Lines, of which, I believe, though it was suspected Nicholas was the ancestor of all, it was not generally proven to be so. At least I *think* I see evidences of this. Please send corrections (trying to give a reasonable source to establish changes), and any additional data, images, etc., that you care to share with me. No, I am not writing a book on the Carpers, and have no aspirations in that direction. If I were to write a small book, it would be of my Fitzgerald Line in PA and NJ. No, I am just seeking to establish this line (with much more than my wife's own direct family) because there were apparently coexisting lines that no one ever showed any unification in. Sorry if my sentences are a little obscure. It is not easy to word things perfectly on this subject. Good hunting, Vince Summers

Sallie 27 wife Keeping house " Francis 8 son " Aaron 6 son " Oliver 3 son " Commentary on the above census from Sara Green: The only trouble with this is that I know that Francis and Aaron were born in Ohio. (Or am fairly certain that they were). Also, in looking at the microfilm for Craig Co. marriages until 1935 I found evidence that Allen Francis had been married in 1899 to a Lillie Florence Webb. That is confusing to me because he was supposed to have married my great grandmother, Dottie, the very next year. Children of CHAPMAN/CHARLES CARPER and SARAH MANN are: 35. i. Notes for OLIVER BURNS CARPER: Of New Castle There is an Oliver Carper listed in: Craig County, Virginia Births, 1853-1896, who has parents Charles Carper and Sarah, with the date of May 4, 1876. This may be one and the same with this Oliver. Chapman, it seems to me, was not the original entry I had here, but it was possibly something like Charles.- VES iii. JAMES CHAPMAN CARPER, b. Notes for ELIZABETH ANN MCCARTNEY: Here is an obituary for Elizabeth Ann (McCartney) Carper: CARPER, Elizabeth Ann (McCartney) widow of Charles E., daughter of Major Andrew and Mary C. McCartney. Born on Barbour's Creek, 1-15-1849 (4th of 12 children), died 10-6-1922. Father was POW during Civil War. Survivors: Several siblings. [no names given] My visual inspection of Elizabeth's stone seemed to read b. 1/5 and died 10/5. This was due, no doubt, to wear, as an obituary and a family Bible list the day of birth as 1/15- Vincent E. Summers Obit. does not list any survivors except several siblings, not named. Byrd's obit. does list him as son of "the late Charles E." and gives the survivors as 3 brothers and 2 sisters-------and he died in 1929, 7 yrs. after his mother. Nicknamed Pet. Notes for CHARLES EDWARD CARPER: Craig County, Virginia Births, 1853-1896 "Little Eddie" 1900 Census says there was a 9th child. Rachel Adeline (Carper) Davis, July 27, 1998, said she remembered there was a little one that they just called "Little Eddie", whether it was born dead or how long it lived, she didn't know. Of course, if this is the 9th child reported in the above census, the child wouldn't have been counted in the census (would it??) Update: Eddie was discovered in the old Carper grave site at Rts. 689 and 615. Turn off 615, onto 689, and up the hill. It is private property, but the owner gave us gracious permission to visit the site, jot dates, and take photographs. Eddie had a stone that was of that soft, perhaps alabaster sort with a little lamb engraved on it, whereas his parents had a small upright stake sort of stone with both their names engraved, with dates, on two of the sides of the stone. The stone seemed to say 1879. The C.E. Carper, Sr. family Bible says 1878. 41. v. FRANKLIN "FRANK" SPOTSWOOD CARPER, b. December 20, 1880. 42. vi. DESSIE MAURICE CARPER, b. November 15, 1882; d.
